As I currently on sabbatical a 'day off' is largely theoretical but the day consisted of:
Drove my daughter to the dinky Coalfields Museum in Huntly, where she is doing an internship and loving it--cataloguing baby bonnets, old wedding dresses, c19th hats etc. Then went for a bike ride around nearby Lake Hakanoa, which is surprisingly interesting and has one of the best looking campgrounds in NZ. Asian families fishing for god knows what in the lake.
Checked out the preparations for Waitangi Day celebrations by the Waipa River in Ngaruwahia.
Spent the afternoon helping friends move furniture and then trimmed overgrown vegetation along the drive, and harvested tomatoes and cucumbers.
Then tried to sort out the mysteries of a US visa application -

That is good and probably easier to remember than Saturday morning screenings. Just a pity they couldn't have put you a mite earlier in the evening schedule.

I guess, like others here, I remain ambivalent about Holmes. Last time I saw him in person was at a Wintec ‘’Media Bites’, hosted by Steve Braunias a couple of years ago. As with his other media performances, it was a mixed bag–some wit but some ‘jokes’ that went down like a soupçon of sick,
But he was deluded in believing that he championed opposition to ‘the Establishment’ for he was very much part of it. How could he possibly perceive of Radio New Zealand as being a organisation dominated by ‘lefties’?
I think I might have warmed to him more if there had been a little more humility and a little less hubris, -
Hmm, I guess you had to be there but the vocals on that cover of 'Pink Frost' are rather piss-weak.
