    *greenbone
*smoked monkfish (fresh is excellent too)

  • Hard News: John Key(nesian),

    What Danielle says.

My mother has polymyalgia rheumatica and severe osteoarthritis: she takes medication for those conditions as well as pills for high blood pressure, and a mild cardiac condition. She is - otherwise- a fit & mentally healthy 80+ person who is the centre & matriarch of a very large whanau. Take her away, and the centre does not hold: a lot of us will spin off and die-

relationships - whanaukataka- the extraordinary social fabric that connects almost all of us -that silkworms/spiderwebs us all - the connectivity of being a human animal among human and other animals- is
    life

wise government would enhance this: stupid & predatory government would do what alpha hooting males have always done- go get grab rape and pillage for temporary immediate indivuualistic gain - and to hell with tomorrow-

  • Hard News: John Key(nesian),

    Not rugby fan, any format.
    Not competitive sports-fan full stop.
Except for fullblooded stomp-on-throat quiz games (especially when they behead the losers, drooool!)

  • Hard News: John Key(nesian),

Tautoko the suggestion that ACC covers *all* disabilities...because the elephant in the room is illness-related disabilities. Yep, I'm well aware that some illness-related disabilities can be somewhat self-inflicted (except there are genetic components in - for instance- alcohol-related disorders) - but so can accident-caused disabilities.

Hsving people in my family who have had a very hard row because their disabilities are not self-caused but are illness-related (and, although they've paid ACC levies for yonks, have absolutely no ACC help) and other family who've run into the back of a bus while pissed and had a heap of ACC help...the inequity, the unfairness, the non-justice trumpets very loudly-

  • Southerly: A Year Ago Today,

    Care to name names Emma?
"Vanishing( fuel )allowance' is a legitimate grouch when you have to travel to be with a client and receive no recompense - that has nothing to do with unnecessarily early discharge. I note that you confuse maternity nurses with midwives also-

  • Southerly: A Year Ago Today,

The staff at Christchurch Women's includes a *lot* of locum staff. They include one of my sisters. 'Shoving mothers out the door early' is NOT a midwife decision - that's a bureacratic one: all the midwifes do is Ok that mum & baby are ok-then the beancounters take over-

  • Hard News: Food Show 08,

    Three things:
one of the weird wee family hierlooms I have is a coffee-grinder brought out from the Orkneys...we had a coffee-percolator machine when I was a child but - grinder & machine- all was made redundant when we could no longer get coffee beans...that tradition has been around ever since Pakeha arrived.

PaulManders - o thanks! Now everyone knows about Havoc pork, we & mine will no longer be able to get it. Psssst! Dont mention the Waimate capons!!!!

Seriously: animals can be farmed in happy & healthy living conditions, and killed humanely (NOT in fukkin' abbattoirs.) Their meat then - tastes really good-

Starbucks - like that unfortunate English fishnchip chain (the *truly worst* fishnchips I've ever tasted in my life were in England) that thought it could over-ride local tastes, provender & expertise, Starbucks didnt research its market. Both have done, are doing, commercial oblivion-

  • Island Life: Staring into space,

Ah yes...primer 3, when I was shouted at for being stupid (because I couldnt see the blackboard)despite the fact that I had gone to school already a reader...the glasses were horrible but wonderfully life-enhancing - ooo look! That's what hills are! There's hills around Christchurch!!And light comes from lightbulbs!!! (Well hey, I wasnt 7...)

Many decades later. I praise contact lenses - my mother got them for me when I was 12 & at high school (because the glasses really were
astoundingly ugly (with my degree of myopia you need really thick lenses)). My sight is distinctly imperfect but I can still drive -and my mother still recalls my delight at being able to catch things thrown to me...
