  • Hard News: If you can't say something…,

Joe, I was 16 going on 17, nearly at the end of high school, and we were travelling to Arthur's Pass for a rare school-away. As the train passed over the pre-Waimakariri bridge I looked down and saw - what looked like a hare(it was standing on it's hinds with front paws hanging down, was a reddy-brown colour) - except it didnt have a hare's ears, and no scut(I was so bemused I didnt look for another kind of tail.) And then it dived into the river-

that's all. No other evidence - and there never has been physical evidence. There's the names in Maori, and anecdotes (one of the goodies is of kids on the West Coast who caught an...oddity in their possum trap-line.)

  • Hard News: Prospects,

This has been an amazing thread. I've learned a lot, and I've been given portals/e-links to a lot more.
    Thanks, everybody!
I've also learned there are sour wee shits out there with whom I'll never have converse again. I feel happy about that, because their tedious & vapid snarkiness hasnt added a helluva lot to my general knowledge - or anything else.
To everyone else - it's going to be an interesting 3 years!
    Let's flow-

  • Hard News: Prospects,

Craig- I'm still not sure where your earlier outburst came from but i totally agree that "Kai Tahu will argue" etc. - man, I am a Kai Tahu!
    I know us!

But - I concur and tautoko all your commentary after "But like the outcome or not..."

I dont like the outcome but yes, our own didnt let us down- all our own - kia ora tatao katoa-

He's from the north - I dont know whether he is Ratana or not... and *that* is the problen. He hasnt ever had a real *oresence* among us ordinary Kai Tahu- and he cretainly hasnt worked on giving one.

  • Hard News: Prospects,

Bugger, i think this $@@##!#$ machine has swallowed my earlier reply to Sacha-

Okeroa lost because he was a lazy incumbent. I go to quite a few Kai Tahu gatherings. Her just wasnt there for the ones I attended.

I am saddened that the South has gone away from an old promise...
