JK seems to believe that they can ride out the storm through to the election and still be popular enough to win. If fresh polling next week shows them taking a big hit, maybe then there will be some sacrificial lambs.

Where has Stephen Joyce gone? I'm scared.
Nats had to roll out Bill English today, as about the only 'clean' senior party member left, to do some policy presentation and distraction. -
Certainly don't rely on Winne to go left given the choice. He's a proven liar and will go with whoever offers the best deal.

God it was good to hear Guy Espiner scold him like that. Finally, someone who doesn't just let him wander off into analogies with the All Blacks. It makes you realise just how weakly tested John is by the mainstream media most of the time.

This Stuff poll doesn't seem believable to me:
http://origin-interactives.stuff.co.nz/polling/
It did at least acknowledge that the undecided vote was 15.4% – way at the bottom. -
No offers of meetings at all in dear old Warkworth (Nat. – Mark Mitchell). Our countryside is absolutely littered with National hoardings with little sign of any alternatives. There is no battle for votes up here. I have been doing my best to stir up the blue haze with loud, public ponderings about the merits of the parties on the left but to little avail. Best summarised by a conversation I had at a party two weeks ago:
Guest; “I always vote National but I’m not political”.
Me; “Oh, good. If you’re not political, could you vote Labour this time for my benefit.”
Guest; “No. I always vote National.” -
Hard News: It was 30 years ago today, in reply to
Thank you so much for that link Deep Red. One of the best bits of reading I've had for a while. Now if we could just find a way of managed retreat from the 'exponential growth' scenario, we might even rescue the planet.

I special voted from Australia where I was on the start of my OE. The 80s in Auckland were a great time for me, weird but great. I was getting my first real jobs after uni and flouncing around town. It would have been really interesting to see what became of the successive Labour governments if the sharemarket hadn’t crashed in ’87. Lange made one feel proud to be a NZer and it was a pity to see it all disintegrate after Douglas and Preb tried to go hard right. Odd to think about even now. As I ponder my decision for this election, I fear for what my children will be facing in 30 years time. I stronly suspect that environmental and societal breakdown may occur faster than most suspect, especially in the US of A, and heaven knows if we are capable of dragging ourselves out of that mess.

Hard News: Labour's Fiscal Plan:…, in reply to
Bang on Dexter! I was just asking Russell if he could, on his new telly programme, ask Patrick Gower why/when he became such a John Key fan boy. The mainstream media sell who they like, then poll themselves and present their results as gospel, and the unquestioning masses who watch TVNZ/TV3 news take it as true. And, as usual, political debate comes down to three minutes of Joyce vs Parker trying to shout over the top of each other to the tune of. “you said . . .” no, you said . . .” Grrrr.

How weird could Parliament get if we had reps for National, Labour, Greens, NZ First, Maori, ACT, United, Conservatives, Mana/IP? Imagine the coalition of the left!
