My wife has voted early but my 19-year-old son and I are going for a father/son moment tomorrow morning. I do feel a tad guilty when I hear my children repeating the lefty rantings of their parents but I would rather be guilty of lefty brainwashing than that of the right. They'll make up their own minds soon enough. Daughter, 16, is not old enough yet but has been fully involved in the dinner table debates. My heartfelt best wishes to anyone looking to oust the current junta and roll on a final result - I'm exhausted from the fretting.

This is what I truly fear Bruce, that there is no backlash, no repercussions, and the final anyalyis is that no-one cares enough to punish them and stop the continuation of the behaviuor. 'We won so who cares?'

Thanks to Rob & Dismal for the encouragement to keep on keeping on post-election. I assure you I was only talking about numerical defeat at the ballot box, not philosophical of spiritual defeat by the right. My brother said to me this morning, "What will we do if National win?", and I said, "We will carry on, just as we have for the last six years, and continue to do our bit in our community, donate money to good causes whenever we can, help those we can, and be happy to be living in this wonderful country. And we'll just pretend we don't have a National government."

Magnificent rant and thank you for the Tom Waits reference at the end.

I simply don't believe those polls. I think they are as dubious as the MSM reporting of them. Post-election, I think we will have National sitting around 47% and still needing Winston to give them a third term. We have to convince NZ First that supporting that sort of awful, corrupt behaviour is not the right thing to do. I can't stand the lack of difference this all seems to have made to National voters in particular but I refuse to give up until Sunday 21 at the earliest.

One of the strong feelings I had after reading Dirty Politics was how poorly served we are by the mainstream media. It has been an interesting week in our household as my wife got into political debate with true-blue faction at the local community art centre, and was told that she couldn't possibly be up to date on current affairs if she didn't watch the TVNZ or TV3 news. For my son, 19, this is his first election and he gets all of his news from Facebook, Tumblr and online chatting with friends – seldom visits the Herald and never TV3/TVNZ.

I know this seems overly simplistic and obvious, but I am getting a really nauseous feeling from knowing that the PM and senior Minister of the country are standing up and lying to my face. I’m not so naive that I don’t expect partisan politicking, but this is just awful.
I empathise with Matt Nipperts about having the wool over one’s eyes suddenly removed by Nicky Hager and associated hacker. I read and enquire and like to think I keep a finger on the pulse, but I hate the feeling of knowing I have been unwittingly manipulated by Slater et al. -
Love @Peace/Homebrew but definitely do not love that song. Take it back, start again.

Herald website this morning has nothing for the first 7-8 stories and then recycled Judith Collins story after that. Of more importance are; Lorde takes up yoga, couple propose on springy ride thing, crocodile eats man in Oz, meat hook in the head and a few other newsy bits. Nothing to see here . . .
