Is there anywhere else we can see/hear the Critic's Choice material. I'd love to hear what they presented? I went to Elbow on Saturday night which was outstanding. A real fan's show with lots of sing alongs and general enthusiasm, and the Powerstation was perfect for seeing what is a stadium act anywhere else in Europe.

Which is where Dylan is coming from . . . just cos we can't see it, doesn't mean it's not happening and doesn't make Nicky immune from investigation. We shall see . . .

I think there is a difference between the right to protect your sources and immunity from investigation but that’s making assumptions about other people’s posts so I’ll stop there.
The other possibility about the police activity is that they are doing nothing about the other allegations and are doing this vindictively – it could swing either way.
I do love that you are playing devil’s advocate and hope you’re not feeling too ganged up on. -

I'm not sure that anyone has actually said that Nicky should be immune to police action in respect of the complaint from Cameron Slater. You've twice said that is the case but I think that the argument throughout the thread is over the prioritising of Nicky Hager for a house search and the scale (perhaps) of the team. It's entirely reasonable to investigate Nicky with respect to the theft accusation but we see no action, thus far, on other equally (more?) serious allegations. And that smells funny to me.

I agree Dylan that my reaction is somewhat emotive and suits my political leanings. However, following your line of reasoning, if certain police actions do not compromise the execution of others, then they are theoretically capable of investigating every complaint, with no budget constraints. What appears to have happened, in reality, is that they have chosen to send FIVE officers to Nicky's house as their chosen priority.

This is what I was thinking Bart. You are quite correct Dylan, in that it was a reported crime and deserves to be investigated, but the prioritising of this much time and people power to the 'messenger' is the concern. If we were discussing the corresponding raids on Cameron Slater's home, Jason Ede's home and Judith Collin's home, then I would be more comfortable with it. I realise that they have not been accused of a crime thus far, but, in a sense, that is also part of the problem – the resources are being sent elsewhere.

Of all the potential avenues of investigation available from the material Nicky published, the one that gets followed up is 'shooting the messenger'. Nice. I imagine that the PM is 'comfortable' with that.

It was interesting to see Patrick Gower at work on election night at the National Party election night function. He repeatedly mocked and sneered at the people he was interviewing, but subtley and sneakily so that they didn't quite realise before he cut back to John at the TV3 studio, where they were all having a laugh at how 'naughty' Patrick was being. I guess it can be fun sometimes but Patrick has developed a manner that is snide and unpleasant, and he has beome a total John Key fanboy.

Thank you Rich for doing my research for me. To be fair to Craig, I was, in my offhand manner, referring more to the cliché South American, throw people out of helicopters regime. However, I just want a change of government and I'm tired . . . so very tired.

Heaven forbid that I should get a little emotive in my language on the last day of what has been a rather extraordinary campaign. My apologies to all the readers of this thread who were offended by my use of the word that Craig referred to but which I will not mention again.
