I have many childhood memories of seeing films at the Carlton cinema in Hamilton. Pretty sure that's where I saw Star Wars in '78 or so. When it was eventually taken over by a church in the 90's, they threw out all the old equipment from the projection room. Fortunately my boss at the time retrieved it, kept the 50's surround sound system and gave me the three Westrex/McIntosh tube amps. I still need to do them up but they should sound pretty good as the front channels of a home theatre one day!

I was a bit unconvinced by Graeber's article. He doesn't seem to consider that a major reason we don't have flying cars and home robots is just that science fiction authors know less about physics than they thought they did, and overreached themselves a lot.

Can I ask what problems you have with m4a-files?
Basically, they're not MP3 or FLAC files. I've still got devices round here that don't know what an M4A is, but can play any old MP3 you throw at them. There's nothing about an M4A that makes it better than an MP3 file, so there's no reason to like them.

Just to echo what Tim said above, a listen to "Mr. Daisy and the Apple Factory" is definitely worthwile.

Has anyone else had the marketing questionnaire from Sky that sounds awfully like they're looking at setting up a Netflix-like service? It was interesting, spent a long time on a bunch of different pricing options.

I'd *love* to see Soundgarden this year but I'm taking the kids up to Bloom at Matakana for the weekend instead. That probably says it all really! It does seem like the smaller festival market is looking reasonably healthy.
