I got a similar letter from them. Must be their stock standard response.
It is a load of cobblers to claim that 'most companies ... In the same manner'. Only where there is a complete monopoly and nil competition for lay services.I recently was sent a market research survey asking for my opinion of Sky. A bit of a mistake sending it to me!

This would be Mark Ellen and David Hepworth of the late--and much lamented-- The Word magazine?

Ah, MTV. What a bloody disgrace it is today but I recall its beginnings, when I began my PhD studies in Ohio in late 1979. Seeing Prince and Little Red Corvette for the first time! Hearing Tom Waits The Piano is Drunken, which a local sleazy bar used to close down proceedings in the early hours of the morning .....

Of new music: thoughtful son in London sent me a CD of Public Service Broadcasting (the British group, that is). An interesting venture--inserts of 1940/50s news audio and old films (eg Night train), over driving instrumentals?

What a wonderful story about your brother-in-law, Russell.
Peter, Josephine's father, stirred a little on Christmas Day and scoffed down smoked salmon, after not eating for days. Must have sparked memories of Christmas' past in the old fellow.

Thank you, Russell.
This is strangely detached Christmas as we are in Nelson on a deathbed watch. Josephine's father is in steep decline, stricken with cancer, after living a life as a rugged forester. It may be today or tomorrow or next week but I am returning home today as I don't want to leave my daughter alone any more days. Josephine will stay on with her sisters, So, 'Merry Christmas' seems a bit forced. -
Dear Nelson PA'rs; I will be in Nelson for the new few days as father-in-law is in steep decline and meeting up a drink at a local bar would be a welcome relief from the joys of the rest home. Just email me at lealand@waikato.ac.nz if it is possible or desired.
