It may be off-beam, but for your geeks debate...
"I can't understand why people are frightened by new ideas. I am frightened by old ones" (John Cage, 1912-1992). Discuss.

I have to get in early with this one: Go The Chiefs!!!!!!

Geoff: I spent most of my childhood and adolescence in Hamilton,
Fair enough, Simon. I didn't go to school here (my children have), so my experience has been different. It may be a bit trite but I have always endeavored to find the best in any place I haved lived in (I was raised in Hawera, after all).
One thing that does disappoint me about Hamilton, though, is the toothless local zoning laws, which allow bastard developers to knock down all kinds of things--most recently, destroying the graceful old brick wall that curved around the intersection of Clyde Road, alongside the old convent, in order to build more tacky shops. But, like other Hamilton East locals, I have voiced my displeasure.Still, parts of Wellington inner city were looking pretty rundown and sad when I was there last week.
Maybe, you could add the Hamilton gully system, which threads through the city? I have friends who have a 100+ year old stand of kahikatea in the bottom of the gully (a ravine, really) that borders their property.

I totally recommend it to anyone that is forced to spend any time in Hamilton. It's basically the best thing the city has on offer.
Hey, I can't let that slur pass without comment. Have a good look around, the next time you visit.

The Putnam book has coped a lot of justified flack, for it sloppy use of evidence and unjustified claims.
I somehow missed the discussion in the prior thread about the Chief's victory on Friday. We took my 85 year old dad-in-law from Nelson along--he hadn't been to a live rugby match since the days players wore long shorts and we watched rugby in b&w. On his behalf, I nearly did damage to a group of Hurricanes supporters in front of us (who supplied them with those damn foghorns!).
Truth is, I went along to the game with only slight hopes of victory. In the Waikato, until this season, we have come to live with disappointment. I also thought that we needed Brendon Leonard. So, the final result was so satisfying, as we wandered off home in the fog (but certainly not in a fug). -
Like others, I would like to know what a 'light punch' from the fist of a grown man, to the face of a four year old, might be.
-
But srsly, how cold WAS it? Because it looked fairly arctic
'round 2C. But the sun gods are shining on us today. In regards the obnoxious Hurricanes fans, I came close to sticking their bloody electronic foghorns up some place painful. Maybe they were useful in finding their way home!

Oh, and well done the Chiefs.
On their behalf, thank you. But it was bloody close and a little strange when the fog rolled in. We were sitting behind some very obnoxious Hurricanes fans, so the final result was needed.

Great show last night RB, very well done, one of the best I have seen
Yes, it was. It was fascinating to see how firmly TV news folk subscribe to 'pictures' with everything--great for teaching codes & conventions! As one commentator has already has already suggested, "TV news" should be properly regarded as "TV olds"!
