Didn't Stephen attempt to establish that I was from Te Awamutu a while ago?
I thought I saw you at The Regent 3 Cinema in Alexandra Street. Great things have come from Te Awamutu--not just the Finns.
But I am procrastinating--I should get back to updating my chapter on NZ journalists for a new edition of The Global Journalist (Routledge). All insights on the state of the profession are welcome (but they do have to be publishable!)

The list of the Tsk Tsk Force on the front page of the Herald this morning caused me to choke on my toast. The only recommendations missing were: Bring back children as chimney sweepers and Cut off the hands of petty thieves.
And a side note to the gentlemanly Geoff Lealand I will get around to a decrypted version of my comments on the SPADA Media 7 if I bump into you over the festive season.
I will be at the do on Friday night, staying over for The Civic tour on Saturday.

On sale at Unity Bookshop in Wellington: "I miss Helen" badges.Indeed -- Helen Reddy hasn't put out an album of new material in over a decade.
What, no Helen Keller jokes?

Yeah, Russell should ban that rich guy. He's a cock.
But he ain't some rich prick!

At times like this, too, I really miss Bruce Jesson.

What are the topics for Media 7 this week, Russell? I will be in Auckland on Wednesday (at TVNZ in the morning) but I think our media teachers Christmas do may take priority in the evening.

Geoff, do the noise-cancelling models have a standard minijack
Just yer standard minijack. I am getting sound through the left ear and occasionally through the right, so it obviously something to do with the connection. Do you know if they can be repaired?
Summer is on its way--the birds are perching in the plum tree.

As it is Friday and the conversation often wanders a bit, I wonder if anyone else has had my experience with headphones. Another expensive set of Sony noise reduction 'phones are kaput, due to a design fault which seems to afflict many such devices ie the breakages adjacent to the earphone jack. Why don't they reinforce this point with a protective sleeve, or something?

Terry Hall was very good--and courageous.

Well said, Jackie. I swim in the academic world and presumably I am daily surrounded by great minds and greater thoughts but I find the PA world far more intellectually stimulating and, at times, a little daunting. But certainly we should meet this time...

What do we all think about name-tags, then?
I did suggest this 'round the time of the last Auckland event, even though the concept does remind me of Rotary meetings. Maybe if we could opt for cryptic identifiers?
Just when I thought there would be no summer concerts for me (James Taylor?? Fleetwood Mac?? other near-death artists???) , I hear that Al Green will be performing in Auckland in January. Whooo!!
