Far too many la las for me but I appreciate the effort. This is the time of the year when my iPod works overtime, shutting out all the Snoopy's Christmas and Felice bloody Nobby da da in all kinds of public places.

This current conversation has taken some interesting twists and turns. It is quite some task to understand all the nuances of PAS--most particularly the connections and back stories of some of the old-timers and there are times still when I have no idea what is going on. But I guess that is a characteristic of any long and complex conversation.

It suggests I was born in Dunedin.
..and I was born in the middle of the Mediterranean, which might explain my dislike of fishy things.

The Atheist Bus that roams the roads at night, running down believers and ferrying the unwary to dens of iniquity (like casinos and universities)
... and doesn't run on diesel, but the blood of babies and children.
I do object to the notion that atheists do not believe in anything (or 'believe in nothing'). Like others, I believe in a moral structure (forgiveness, generosity, equity, the performance of good law, the belief that the majority of people are good but also the existence of bad bastards). I just don't need a doctrine, church, creed or religious representative to tell me these things.
But, then, I was expelled from bible class at a very early age for questioning some of the very fantastical stories I was being told.

Still, Socrates had something interesting to say about that viz "The unexamined life is not worth living"

All I wanted to say, to the forum in general, I've said: nosce te ipsum.
(donning on my "Hooray for sarcasm" T-shirt)-- Well, I think I do but I can get be a bit forgetful these days.

Ya, it's kinda strange how the young are always bitter on the expectations that the old have of them
Well put, Ben. Of course, the retort 'so where do you think you came from?' doesn't work.

i like people with an air of mystery:)
Well, it is a mystery to me what exactly you are complaining about.

But I like disgraceful old blokes and aspire to be one. Being a public nuisance must be more satisfying than the weekly trip to the bowling club, to whine about the 'yoof' of today!

Thanks, Phil. Much appreciated. I was also on Radio Live with Maggie Barry, suggesting that if the gummint continued to squeeze TVNZ for dividends and treat it as a 'cash' cow', its final destination was likely to be Jimbo's petfood factory. But she didn't get the joke!
