  • Stories: Love,

I love the intense red on green of pohutukawa on a sunny blue day.

If you are not near the coast, feijoas in flower are as good. Also the flower spike of my Poor Knight's Lily, which emerged for the first time in 8 years (they can take 10 years or more to first flower).

  • Random Play: Welcome to this world,

I saw Invictus last weekend. Liked it a lot. Morgan Freeman does very well as Mandela.

There is an interesting discussion about this film on the NYT site. I am particularly interested in how they use rugby--as background, or mere punctuation to the plot? If more Americans get to know about the game, that is a bonus.

  • Stories: Love,

Lovely story, Jackie. You are a remarkable person.

Come August 17 2010, I will have been married to Josephine Maplesden for 25 years. I have the date down in my new diary as we have a tendency to let such milestones (not 'millstones') slip by. Much longer than my first marriage, which is rather a tragic story, in a rather dusty file.

Wouldn't do to be on the radio all stubbly.

Surprise us all and wear a tasteful tie.

  • Random Play: Welcome to this world,

The very best sci-fi film I have seen for an age (saw it twice this year) is David Jone's Moon. It does have some resemblance to Aliens(the amoral, corrupt corporation ) but succeeds without any monsters or banal threats--more of a film about ideas, set on the dark side of the moon. It is also succeeds in being melancholic, which is rather unusual for sci-fi.

I don't know, I deliver via Interflora and they're pretty busy at the moment.

    There's no Interequine?

No, hell is a library *conference*

No, hell is having to read a history of the New Zealand Library Association (it used to be a requirement for the NZLA Prelim Certificate)
