Field Theory: Gruts, in reply to
Maybe it’s Elle having a hand in your undies
Elle had a hand in my undies and I never noticed!!! Was I drugged or unconscious or something??

I’ve usually found out the hard way that the crotch seams of men’s dress trousers is prone to intimate chafing.
Plus the very real danger with zips!

Yes, it is baffling why some cardrivers throw things at cyclists (from insults, to empty vodka bottles). What corner of their lives are we threatening? I recently followed a carload of insult-throwers into a Warehouse carpark, pulled up to the driver’s window and asked, “Why were you yelling at me?”. Risky, I know, but they looked shamed–and barely with it, in a fug of pot smoke and beer fumes at 11 o’clock on a weekday morning.
I have been known to bang on car roofs when they have cut me off but I guess that wouldn’t help car-cyclist relations.

@ Ian. That is what I was thinking of--commonly known as Solexes. It took some courage to ride one--I could barely hold it upright.
Carrion platforms for accountants, lawyers...and property developers. Now is a good idea. If you can't get the birds, Don Brash does a mighty fine vulture impersonation.

Finland has some fine policies eg the wealthier you are, the more you pay for traffic violations; you can only buy hard liquor at state-owned stores; and Leningrad Cowboys are compulsory listening for all Finns aged 15 years or older (note: only one of these claims is wrong)

Statistics and percentages are all fine and dandy but we need pictures!

Lecturers don’t get their own carparks?
Not usually. We have two staff carparks for eleven people in my department. Other places, you have to pay an annual fee and you can't claim it for tax.
Anyway, we should be setting an example--many students seem to have flasher cars than ours (all those butterfat cheques coming in?)

When I was at Canterbury uni, there was a tradition of powered cycles which looked like they had a motor mower strapped to the front wheel. Are these still around?

@ Bruce Trollan. Welcome from a fellow Troner. Locally, Cycology (grreat name or not?) have a good selection. I have a newish Avanti (support your local industries!) which works perfectly well, with tyre treads somewhere between those knobbly mountain bike horrors, and the skinny, skinny professional bikes.

@ David. You continue to astound. You can cycle and post comments on PAS at the same time?
