  • 3410,

And to the original post - yes to the criticism of the news - it's appalling on both channels, to the point where if I can I'm either going to start watching Prime at 5.30 (at least it's only 1/2 hour) or just leaving it to the internet.

ABC Australia News at 5pm daily on Triangle is not bad for international news and as a bonus, they don't talk to you like you're a ten year old.

  • Jackie Clark,

I wonder if TV news suffers from the assumption that because they are not most peoples' main source of news, they don't have to bother to be much good?

I think Stephen Bowie entirely missed the point of that abortion plot line on Friday Night Lights ... And I'm pretty sure the out-atheist Ron Moore would love to know what "surreptitious" Christian dogma he was pushing in BSG

It's a blog ... feel free to let him know =)

Ha, snap to most of the comedies above. Have just finished Community, almost done with Season 2 of Parks 'n' Recreation, loved Better Off Ted (and can't see why it got cancelled) and also quite enjoyed Party Down, which was similarly cancelled after two seasons I think. Anyone else got anything similar to recommend?

I tend to watch them in two hour blocks every night for about a week, guzzling them until they're all gone. If I ever ran for Mayor I'd have to admit having a problem with quirky sitcoms.

Eastbound and Down about a baseball player's attempts to return to glory after disgrace is hilarious, and I'm also enjoying Louie staring Louis CK (he played the cop in Parks and Rec) which is incredibly bleak and different every week, but funny.

I pick the shows that I want to watch from reading recaps on The AV Club, then I ask my aunt in the USA to send me over a videocassette she's taped off the screen. Oh Don Draper, you have been a bad boy, haven't you?

How to make it in America - It's the Entourage of the East Coast. It just makes you want to be a cliquey hipster douchebag in NYC.

And of course Treme. Good enough to watch just for the soundtrack.

I really enjoyed "The Circuit" on Maori TV and its replacement "East West 101" is way cool too.

+1. Kenny Fuckin' Powers: sometimes when you bring the thunder, you get lost in the storm.

I'm really looking forward to eventually seeing Louie. When my aunt gets her VCR organised.

Ah Prime - why do you hate us so, with your dropping of shows halfway through the season?

Ok, ok, ok - so my wife an I were the only ones who like season 2 of Legend of the Seeker. At least they could have warned us they were giving up. I had to find out on Throng man! Who cares if the storyline was pointless? You had buff guys, bosom-y girls and a good chance to catch some NZ actors hanging out (look, it's Keisha!). A chance to see Craig Parker without watching Shortland Street. Awesome.

    oh well.

And when is Prime going to get an ondemand service?

You weren't. Did you catch the episode where Craig Parker got to play Darken Rahl's comedic double? That was good.

(Not that the show was, generally, but as you say; plenty of eye candy and plenty of humour, sometimes intentionally. And Cara. I liked Cara.)

    Why are road accidents news?

I'll take the silence on this question to affirm my instinct that driving fatalities possess little, if any, newsworthy content.

I couldn't help but to find her "blood rage" awfully arousing. The idea that she couldn't shag guys because she might have that happen seemed extremely pervy, in a good way.

Misfits on Monday on C4 is interesting and entertaining. A similar tone to Outrageous Fortune--the extremes of the underclass (but you wouldn't want them living next door!)

it is a pain in the arse when networks are determined to counter-schedule their only interesting shows against each other.

    Like 8.30 tonight. Bastards

That was Kahlan (the one who can't act). Cara's the sarcastic, ex-evil blonde (the type without which no genre show is really complete.)

I know, Sacha, I know. Not only do TV3 replace Top Chef with bloody Grand Designs at the last minute, they also schedule Parenthood against This Is Not My Life. There are repeats of TINML on Sundays at 9.25 so at least that's something.

If you'd like to see a lot more of Craig Parker (as in, his willy) get your aunt to send you Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Sure, the first couple of episodes are ludicrous, and the amount of blood and tit and cock is slightly over the top, but the story and intrigue will really grow on you.

Indeed -- but if you're reading this Lucy your tits should be given Schedule 4 protection.

And I just had the weirdest suspension of disbelief fail watching This Is Not My Life -- most of the exteriors are the office park where my partner used to work in. (And the Waimoana Heliport is the barely re-dressed Smales Farm bus station.) Who knew that I live in the sterile heart of darkness?

  • Brodie Davis,

I think its quite good that we get fairly benign things on our news, my japanese wife finds it quite refreshing that the nightly news is a bunch of stories all jazzed up to make everything seem much worse than it is. In Japan the news is all about on-goning corruption and real problems, here they often run the puff peice about some random animal etc.

And just because I love community so much, heres one of the many great moments.
