  • Hard News: Postmodern Banks Anxiety,

    Priesthood is totally about power...

...and the glory, for ever and ever
    aaaaah, men!

    Alexandria anyone?

and the Americas, they probably burnt the codices to melt the gold
showing the priorities of the invading priories....

  • Hard News: Postmodern Banks Anxiety,

    Navel gazing...

    Gobekli Tepe

I find this place endlessly fascinating.
I was gonna introduce it into the discussion arising from the comments on Ishmael and the fall of man a wee while back, but got sidetracked...

    hey judeism...

Science still can't properly explain why I love Wilson Pickett singing Hey Jude but can't deal with Andy Williams doing the same song.

Sure it can - Harmonics - and the fact that you are
    a well tuned resonancy boy! ;- )

  • Hard News: Fighting On,

    survival of the fritterest...

Occasionally I'll have a whitebait fritter though. One bite, so many lives.

aah well, if it's quantity you are after may I suggest Probiotics...
so much easier to swallow than those dancing-angel-laden pinheads

absinthe makes the hurt grow fonder...

Laudanum with a touch of absinthe..good taste!!

    you're in good company...

Charles Baudelaire, Paul Verlaine, Arthur Rimbaud, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Amedeo Modigliani, Vincent van Gogh, Oscar Wilde, Aleister Crowley, and Alfred Jarry were all notorious "bad men" of that day who were (or were thought to be) devotees of the "Green Fairy" (absinthe).

and laudanum is great for diarrhea, and would probably help
with weight loss for the tubby (or not tubby) - a Tinky Winky tincture
    of opium for the masses...?

    whale meat again...
I see M Laws wading into the whole whale saving thang in the SST at the weekend, with all his signature compassion and empathy. Apparently Pilot Whales are the "dumbest animals on the planet", Project Jonah are "feral"
and "god botherers" and so on...

Whales is an anagram of He Laws... jus' sayin'...
and he does spout off alot, is full of blubber not brains,
    and I suspect he is a pod-person!

  • Cracker: Strike Nine (and counting),

    bloody hell...

    ...clot of hobgoblins

    I love that collective phrasing...

    whereas a clot of haemoglobin
    would just be bearing irony...

  • Voting Local 2010,

    just wondering
    - is the Bish and Destinnie Church putting any candidates up
    in Auckland local elections?

  • Hard News: Postmodern Banks Anxiety,

ye gods and little fissures... and other smart cracks

...but I've yet to find a believer who can
rationally justify their belief in a diety

being part of the macro (and micro) biota diet, I find the evidence
for deities insubstantial and a little thin on the ground...
    ;- )

    manna overboard... drumming up support

Once again, irrationally. It comes down to faith.

Blind Faith! and the ambrosia from the Ginger Baker...
    boom boom...

    Market forces...

Creationism is, statistically, a minority view within Christianity

while selling books at the St Albans market yesterday I had some interesting interchanges with other bipeds... one heavily tattooed chap denounced the Catholic church, and then went on to inveigh against evolution and the laughable idea that we had descended from the trees, or from anything in fact... he said i would be beseeching God on my deathbed - cheery fella, charitably I'd say he used to be messed up on drugs and now he's messed up on religion...

  • Busytown: A turn-up for the books,

    Hollis Henry where are you...?

One way would be 'augmented reality' tech...

I can't wait till we get the Locative media applications going here... I first read about it in William Gibson's Spook Country (also mentioned again in the new follow up Zero History )

whoaah - Have just felt another jolting aftershock (only 3.9 and those 3 close, shallow ones last night were doozies!) it has triggered the thought that hopefully someone will archive the existing Google Earth Street View for Christchurch - that is a ready made historic augmented reality overlay for whatever replaces our edifice wrecks...
who would ya suggest that to?

If we take Wellington as an example...

can I put in a plug for Chris Lipscombe for Wellington Regional Council (on the Labour ticket)

  • Busytown: Reading Room,

    Spineless bastards...

Don't know if I entirely trust people who don't have a book in the house....

...but you can't really ask to browse their Kindle
or scan their iPad or hard drives...
...perhaps these devices should have a holographic projector that throws up a mock book case...

  • Up Front: Lessons from Nature,

    33 degrees of separation...

This takes bat-shit crazy to a new level.

Well, there is a lot of dislodged masonry around...

(I'm even having to recycle puns down here)
    ;-)
