I thought I'd bump this, given how sad I'm feeling about things like lines we're hearing about in the US election :-(

And One News, with an extremely annoying Jack Tame video. I think his work, like that of all the NZ correspondents, has been pretty good, but he needed a producer to tell him to tone it down on that video.
And also his attempt at vote suppression - telling people that the election is on the second Tuesday in November - is poor form.

I see fivethirtyeight are now at 92.5% chance of an Obama victory with a “most likely” result of 315.3 Electoral College votes.
I'll take that bet. Name your odds. I'll put $100 on Obama not getting 315.3 Electoral College Votes :-)

US elections (federal and state) are governed partly by federal law ( Bush v Gore , obviously)
Bush v. Gore did not involve a question of federal law.

Legal Beagle: MMP Review #1: The Party…, in reply to
Winston Peters is arguing that the 5% threshold should remain as ‘this what was decided in the referendum in 1993, and nothing has happened which changes that decision’.
Do you know what he is referring to exactly, and whether it has any relevance in the current debate?New Zealand First policy on the electoral system is - and always have been - that changes should be made only by referendum.
Winston considers that the 5% threshold received voter approval in the 1993 referendum which adopted MMP, and that in the absence of another referendum approving a change to it, that it should stay that way.

Hard News: When we had hope and change, in reply to
Dawn raids occured mainly from the mid 70s under Muldoon. Not sure if prevalent in Kirk’s time (up to 1974)?
Started in 74, not long before Kirk's death, I understand. Continued under Rowling, and then under Muldoon.
Did a bit of a search yesterday to try to establish when they ended, but couldn't find anything. Anyone here have the information?

The Norman Kirk government would provide me with an instant answer for one of those on the whole pretty bad "What makes you proud to be a New Zealander"
Dawn Raids, not so much.
