  • Hard News: Crash and Contempt,

Giovanni. my Nanna was Scots (born here, but still very Scots) and one of the first things she taught her gradnchildren once they'd reached 7, was how to make scones. Really easy! And you can make 'em savoury or sweet, with good white flour (or a mix of white wholemeal) and good butter, and girdle-cook 'em or oven bake...I still have a girdle-iron of Nanna's vintage...so whatever recession is coming, my scones are market proof-

  • Hard News: Now It's On,

I would strongly disagree that the Greens are a 'religious' party - unless you are sloppily using 'religous' to mean 'believer' - and of course the Greens are a believer party - Earth first. (Tamaki and his deranged cohorts - ok, that's a bit strong - gullible & easily-led-by-self-interested-and-self-promoting-religious-nutter cohorts, are a religious party.)

I'm on the Southern Maori roll: I come from (and, oh, how I do mean this!) a Labour party family, and I've twice strategically voted for the Greens on the party vote. But I think their Maori policies are seriously shonky-

Steven Crawford, how I do like MMP too!

  • Busytown: See me grow,

When asked that pitfall of a question, I learned early on (by 6) to say,
"An artist" watch for the bepuzzlement or outright bafflement tinged with underlying hostility and add quickly "or a nurse."

I had no intention as a kid to ever become a nurse: this hardened by adolescence...

Well done your boys - and especially, well done their parents, other family, and friends. Their growing up will have huge challenges but - I trust - some of petty stupidities & vindictiveness visited on kids in the 1950s will never mire them.

Person who is an artist of sorts, never allows interruption of reading (earthquakes excepted, and is still not sure whether she has grown up...

  • Hard News: Now It's On,

The time I read, in the NYT in 1985,

"Dice 2 kiwis and place of top" (of some kind of tart thing)

I felt sick even as the little mental wheels were churning and coming up with 'They mean frruit! Really!'

  • Hard News: Now It's On,

Tai Toka is a possibility (for Labour rather than the Maori Party) dependent on a different candidate- Okeroa has rather benefitted from the still-existant pro-Labour choice of a lot of Kai Tahu - but he done much to really earn re-election...we'll see, we'll see-

Something else to factor in: Ron Mark is appreciated in the South-

  • Hard News: Go Us,

Hell Kracklite, I trust that experiment didnt involve yourself/person you love?

I've read this entire thread with interest & bemsement and am somewhat belightened (no, I dont mean enlightened...) I wont go
deliberately head to head with people I think have made poor-but-repetitive arguments but would suggest someone who entitles themself 'wise' would be advised to be sagacious.

  • Hard News: The Spiral of Events,

A person who loves starfish (and all echinoderms) and hates waste
(the second time I ever hit an adult - I've hit 5 in my lifetime, and 2 children)was whacking a person with the butt of my rod who was xatxhing kahawai and leaving them to gasp their life out and when I asked why he wasant bleeding them (which is whatyou do when you are going to eat kahawai) said "Fuckers arnt worth eating" "Why are you catching them then?" "They geddin the way of my hooks" SMACK)*

right, where were we? A person who loves all life will search out a proper environment for the starfish, and then gently reintroduce them. Because there are starfish & starfish
