  • Hard News: The Short and Long of It,

Consider the 'What was I thinking?!' comment a rite of passage. We've all done it. :)

I just worry when I get that feeling again and again and again......

Is there any point in beefing up the search tool ?

For me a good PAS thread is like a big party - the main room with the dancers, conversations in the kitchen, the odd scuffle in the corner and of course a drunk or two stumbling around, what's there to dislike ?

  • Hard News: The Short and Long of It,

Can't say I would be a fan of threaded discussions either - but I am desperately trying to think of a way of making replies self tagging somehow.

I also can't remember the last time I went to PA rather than PAS.

Facebook is quickly falling into the category of clubs I don't want to join because they would have me...I hate it when peole link to a facebook page and I am expected to sign up in order to see stuff. This has happened a lot on twitter lately.

Glad to be part of a community that likes to read and engage with ideas that are well formed and demand time/attention.

Oh and thanks to Leo for the Ohrwurm.

  • Hard News: The Short and Long of It,

I don't doubt that I am in a minority here, but I will be quite sad to see the introduction of an edit button to PAS discussion.

Firstly the lack of an edit function pauses my pinkie above enter for just that littlle bit longer; which for me, is no bad thing.

Question - Will the edit functionality be time sensitive ? What I'm getting at, is would I be able to vanity edit my contribution to a thread to reflect a fluid point of view or merely not to look a complete goon. I can see advantages and disadvantages to this. But the lingering nightmare is reading a certain copyright thread where it becomes unclear what someone actually said at the time.

As for Twitter - I love it in it most simple form - following the musings and conversations of people I like to read. Being as I am, sitting at the fringe of conversation suits me just fine. I'm over the virtual Skinner box friends, responses, shouts thing. Rather strangely twitter has revived my desire to blog.

Deans went to his deathbed firm in his stance that he, and New Zealand, was robbed on that day.

Thus it would seem New Zealand's attitude to defeat has not changed in 100 years...heh heh

    Said the Welshman ;-)

  • Hard News: On Ideas,

This one's a bit of a drive by but on the same lines as the Doctors point:

As an "Educator" I can teach more students to pass more tests - Does that make me more productive ?

  • Hard News: A New Hope,

You may now be thinking that if Murdoch could manipulate his digital pages with the same ease with which Amazon can delete 1984 from your kindle, that's a bit scary.

    <obscure thinking>

And on a related line of thought. It struck me as strange that the cycle of media is complete when media shapes and controls the distribution of knowledge/information. At the dawn of print, wasn't it about setting these things free in some way or other ?

I can't think of any British migrants I've met who don't scoff at "how we give it all away to the Maoris" and no longer feel at home in the UK.

Am I allowed to be offended yet ?

    i) I worry that iodine in salt is less effective given the shift to no or low salt diets but I can't find any data on this. Should we stop that too ?

ii) I can't get over how strange this dabate is - get vitamin B9 for free in something that is not that bad for you (on its own) Or you could try Vitamin Water at $3:00 a bottle.

    Sunny Delight anyone ?
