Kind of a tangent on the topic, go to about 26mins through, and you see how people have no trouble copying and improving other peoples ideas. But get VERY upset with people copying theirs, or ideas they come to think of as their own.
And how detrimental this is to society as a whole.
So building on the idea of how we see ourselves (erroneously) and then how we view others.And music. This link relates because music.

Red Peak might now become the white liberals’ Tino Rangatiratanga flag.
I was just thinking that as I bought the Red Peak flag and patches. I don’t identify with the Lockwood designs and also now understand people who have never identified with the current flag. And I only vote red peak because it makes the most graphical sense for a modern flag (within the 5 available to choose from).
I’m sure the argument has been had, but the United Tribes of NZ flag has a wonderful case when you consider it’s purpose was to encourage ‘people’ to act collectively under one emblem.
It appears to me that this referendum is initiating the opposite of this, we can all have our own flag representing our differing identities. This is going to get confusing at the next Olympics.

At the risk of over commenting - we have some amazing crowd shots of so many happy engaged people of Auckland all enjoying the moment. It's weird that this invokes a negative response from anyone.

It was bloody scary, which I presume was the driver’s intention. It felt like a deliberate and very dangerous attempt to intimidate.
That’s awful. More so as it’s not even uncommon.
I was going straight ahead on MacKelvie Street on Ponsonby and a guy at the stop sign on Rose Road, who was stationary in his vehicle, elected to drive his car into me, forcing me off the Road when I was halfway across the intersection, it was terrifying.
More so because the guy driving the car was staring me in the eye while he did it. I don’t really have words to describe the humiliation and powerlessness when someone is so deliberately mean for no reason.
I saw another guy in a car do this to a person on a bike turning right into Nuffield Street in Newmarket. I was driving, and in the lane next to them. There was a red arrow and the guy in the car behind the person on the bike physically used his vehicle to push the person on the bike into the oncoming traffic. No Reason.
What do you do at those times? I’m ok admitting, I was frightened of that driver.
(by the time I had been able to pull over they were both gone, I’m not sure how that one ended, I did try finding the cyclist for a while).It’s the same as any other ‘ist’ or ‘ism’, and the more it’s recognised as a thing, then the more we can address it.

The fact is, this whole thing cost $18 million to build. Which might sound a lot, until you place it in the context of $4.2 billion of NZTA spending in Auckland in the next three years alone.
So important to have that context. You can forgive people for thinking that $18mil sounds like a significant expense, say compared to the staff xmas do, or their annual income. But comparative to other traffic infrastructure projects it's a relatively small financial allocation.
A lot of people were prepared for the inevitable bikelash, even though it is still frustrating and disappointing to see such a painfully obvious manipulation of fact (#bikehosking). But this is also related to the acceptance of bullying, you have to obscure the reality in order to legitimise the awful behaviour.

Thank you for sharing your story. The words of the PM and subsequent actions in parliament reinforce the actuality of 'rape culture' in NZ. The prevailing views of the people in power are not aligned with equality nor challenging the victim blaming belief system. This is the same country where people like Tony Veitch are still employed, roastbusters are not charged, and our PM can finger a waitress in public, without her consent, and remain in parliament.
It is pretty awful. -

Also they had this temporary parking outside the music festival in Portland, it was easily constructed and held lots of bikes in a smaller space. Looked pretty cheap too (and I mean in a good way).
For relevance to the post: This could be used outside a supermarket or a butchers, or even a pub. The vertical storage makes it economical on space in a confined environment like a footpath. And comparatively easy to relocate, store and assemble.
