new stuff wise this has been my guilty pleasure this year - Maccabees' Ayla, all soarey, droney and heroicky with splendid skittering drums...
otherwise, for mine, this has been a year of great re-releases. Jazzman's Jukebox Mambo is fantastic, as have been almost all of Gerald's 50s RnB singles this year, and I've nabbed a fresh from the factory Numero Group 10th anniversary Eccentric Soul boxset of 45 45s for Chrissey - that one's a collection killer and a beautiful piece of kit to boot.
oh, and plus one on Opossum. Looking forward to the impending UMO album as well. Whatever those boys have needs to be distilled down to handy pill-size and feed to the people at large.

woah jolly, I think we might be talking about different things. that comment was about Emily's pre-song comment not HB. I'll blame the virus that's had me schtukered for the past week if I wasn't clear.

no, not at all. I get rock and roll.
it just seemed precalculated and childish. I've seen Chris eviserate people from the stage but it's done cleverly and with a sparkle in the eye. but that's how I felt about it watching from home, as I say it probably came off differently live.
and yeah, I've heard both Home Brew albums. haven't seen them live but, so I'll taihoa until then. maybe they we'ren't always paying attention to their monitors? or had a few too many early doors?
one more thing, what was up with Campbell Smith's acceptance for Opossum? it was a drive by, grab and run.

absolutely.
and while we're clearing the lawn; I noted Russell's txt about Emily's wee c-bomb. It may have sounded funny there, but it came across as contrived. I stopped watching.
still, really enjoyed Kimbra even if she threatened to go all rock opera on it. I'd like to have been there for that.

yeah Anthony, that struck me too. It seems someone took the celebration and turned it into a moan.
and I know I'm an aging hack but what is the fuss over Home Brew? I've tried, but still don't think they're as good, or as outrageous, as they think they are. To my ears, their backing band made them appear rather amateur.
maybe it made better sense better live?

I wouldn't be so generous. the notion of the baddie in a white hat is an aged trope.
this looks like a deliberate misrepresentation to establish a sexier angle which not only adds a new dimension to an ongoing story but possibly makes them active players in it's telling.
media like nothing less than telling people stuff that others have found out.
