hey Jackie and Chris, just so's you know I managed to get to that place yesterday and it indeed contributed to mighty mighty haul.
from him I scored an Aretha Franklin live album from '65, Dionne Warwick gospel album from her Sceptre period, and an Alternative Ulster 7''. As you say his prices aren't the lowest, but good gear's good gear - cheers for the tip.
highlight score was probably Pink Floyld Obscured by Clouds OST - goes for big money that one, not that I'm selling - from a stash of old Centrepoint vinyl I stumbled across in Thames. owner had forgot about all the records stored under a shelf, just listening to the sampler of early 80s German electronica (Tanz Mit Dem Herzen) I found there as well.
All up came home with about 50 albums and a handful of 7s - really enjoying Barbarella OST from a junk shop in Morrinsville. only just made it there in time.
Fave moment was walking into what I thought was a 2nd hand store and interrupting some lasses glamour photography session.
It was a heady day. -

well done that man, I know the very spot.
kicked off my trawl yesterday - filling my boots while the family's away. managed to squeeze in the chazzas of Papakura, Takanini, Manurewa, Papatoetoe and Otara in btwn downpours.
scored a couple of dozen great pieces for about 50c a pop. esp, but not even remotely limited too, this oddball lounge band who kick off two sides of nonsense with a blazingly quaint take on G Clinton's I Wanna Testify - not sure what they were thinking, but damn pleased they gave it a crack - and the Tommy Watt Orchestra's (feat. Tubby Hayes ) Watts Cooking, outrageously boisterous big band swing and all originals
can't wait to give 'em a spin in combat conditions.appetite fully whetted for tomorrow.

hey Jackie, cheers so much for the tip, will definitely follow up. just need to conduct a bank job after how much I spent on rekids today. can report a healthy queue outside Southbound and in the rush I missed grabbing one of the Floyd See Emily Play 7s. no matter there were gems at real groovy. damn it was hot. had a good time playing and very cool to have a chat with Mr Grigg, a fine bloke and no mistake.
still amazed that Matt sings for Beastwars. been a long time.
and I'd post my finds but a different brand of anorak rules here - can I mention Kai Windings, Coming Home Baby (Verve) on 7''? - squee... -

you're a good man and no mistake. he had this great 70s period where he (and the likes of Les Humphries, I think it was a German thing) used a lot of phased effects, chk his Voodoo Party album.
but that's my white whale de jour. -

Delaney Davidson does a cracking live version of Snapper's 'Buddy'.
well - if you're up this way - he's playing at Southbound Records tomorrow at noon, so you could aks him to bang it out.
And it's OK Russell we forgive your abandonment of the light (smiley face? - also more for the rest of us, another smiley face?) and will keep the shops warm till you return.
Vinyly, I'm all a-tingle at the prospect of a charity shop roadtrip next Friday - got the day off and everything. Starting in Thames, then Te Aroha to Morrinsville, on to Puke, then Papakura and ending in Howick. There's gold to be dug. For cheep.

mate, sounds like we need to get a band together...

I'm liking the notion of a BDO within walking distance, but I really hope it isn't targetted at boomers and early doors Gen Xers. I quite like using events like that as a tasting plate of new sounds - especially if curated by people who's taste I can trust - so the idea of hearing the same ol' same ol' acts they know will get a crowd leaves me yawning.
I'd also like to see a programme that busted out of the standard 4/4 riffarama and white boy rock to maybe include interesting jazz/ left field genres. at risk of coming off as a jaded curmudgeon I find Laneways to be largely tedious, aside from the glorious exception of Holy Fuck, them I could see again.
anyway, putting my mouse where my mouth is, I've been digging around some old Polish music and came across this track - it kicks off all Donovan but hits a cool, if po-faced, choral pop groove. must explore further.
