I will miss you at the Elbow concert tonight. Something got in the way but look for a tall, lean fellow named Gareth who is making good use of my ticket.

Randy California: is that a person or a place?
Russell; what's on Media Take next week as I may be able to join you (sans students)?
-
I agree with Russell's view of the current state of TVNZ. It is indeed a dark and dismal place to visit, and not just because of the renovations. One bright corner is the Media Take taping on Monday night (hope to get to it again next week).

Barfoot and Thompson ? Of course, such real estate firms are completely disinterested parties in escalating house prices and obviously donate all their fat commissions to charity.
They are a major element in this hideous roundelay but seldom are mentioned. -
Looking forward to Elbow next Saturday and C W Stoneking (especially after hearing Nick Bollinger's interview with him). An interesting lineup for Womad 2015 too--Richard Thompson in particular. Such bountiful music,!

Lovely glass. Just North of Mendocino in Northern California, where my brother lives, is a little cove called Glass Beach. Many years ago, rubbish from the local settlement of Fort Bragg was pushed into the sea, and over the decades glass bottles have been ground by the raging surf, to create a beach of tiny, smooth coloured glass fragments mixed with pebbles. I still find little pieces hiding in the bottom of jacket pockets.

Also with a heater that seemed designed for the Siberian steppes? We drove our Lada three times around the clock and, although we tried our best to kill it, it would not die. Finally sold it to my graduate student, who ran up many more kms,,then on-sold it for more than he bought it for. For all I know, it might still be running.
It used to do bizarre things like the car horn going off unassisted or the lights going on full for no apparent reason. -

I remember Morgan. It was good, as I recall. Also saw Lindsay Anderson's If at a Film Soc screening last week and that remains impressive, I think it might be the film where Tarantino got the inspiration for his series of fantasy-revenge movies.

And we mustn't forget Sandie Shaw (except for that bloody awful Puppet On a String). I guess she finally earned enough to buy shoes.
She rates a mention in the piece I did for Audioculture, about when she toured NZ with the Pretty Things in the 1960s.
