It is surreal when you consider that there's enough nukes to destroy Earth at least 8 times over. Like once is not enough? And that would be real global warming...
Remember there has not been an invention that we havn't eventually used. -
We live under the cloud of The Bomb, that is our defining historical moment. The US used The Bomb twice, they are now the only remaining super power. If pushed and to assert that position, have they the maturity to not push the button.
BTW, the first bomb was a psychotic act (defined by acting against social conscience), the scientists themselves stated that they were not 100% sure it would not set off a chain reaction (as the fire bombing of Dresden did), they did it anyway.
Apparently JFK was very close to hitting the button, but Kruchev? at the very last minute backed down, knowing that there has only ever been one Nation who has actually used nukes (on civilians), and that Nation is America. -
Democracy or Death!
USA + 200 year old democracy
IRAN - 10,000? year culture
USA to Iran, you will be democratized or you will die trying! Sigh, and Neil, what possible further spoiling of Iraq could Iran achieve that USA hasn't already? -
Well I hope I eat my words, but I remember The Bay of Pigs (how close?), Hiroshima, and Nagasaki AND the fact that the USA went into Iraq on the premise of WMD's that weren't there and 600,000 Iraqi's, mainly civilians died.
Surreal enough for ya? -
I sat in on a closed Council transport meeting, I know, mea culpa, but I was removed shortly thereafter.
There were 20 or so people in the room, roughly divided into,
1. self interested parties (contractor lobbyists)
2. tourists (like me)
3. train people
4. motorway people
5. managers
6. mysterious types looking on
The problem as I saw it was that each group was tribal, it was like Survivor Council Auckland. The various entities and groups were so divided because that's how they were taught to survive.
Simply, it's the funding model. -
A Limited Nuclear Strike however...

Thanks Paul, I put the question mark in there for one such as you, afterward I realized it looked like I made a point. You are absolutely right and I must discipline myself, but as Che pointed out, I was on a rant.
To justify myself to the ways of men (Blake)...I really think German history has greatly shaped OUR history (I would). -
Praise be! I might be crazy but I love like any other.
-
Thanks Che, I am honoured. I'm not just of German anscestory though. I may have failed but I tried to make a vaque point in there about identity and the futility in NZ of attempting to define it.
I knew it would draw you out, my academe friend. -
Now you're talking crazy talk...you cannot disfugure ze beautiful, smooth, well laid and painted with day glowing accessories tarmac.
Mmmmmm macadam, ez like leather you know.
Seriously, do you think roads are maybe a Council fetish?
