Really great post Emma.
I especially like that you point out the importance of what the participants get out of the event over the reaction of men (or whoever). Although somehow the same argument could not be made for Boobs on Bikes.
I think we need govt tv advertising about male ogling/stupid excuses for men behaving like dicks/psychopaths. Something like;
"It's not the liking of boobs, its the WAY we like boobs."
...and as silly as that sounds, I kinda mean it.

Today is turning into a rather heavy news day for reality stars. Bret Michaels has suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, and Terry Serepisos is in financial crisis due to the breakdown of the Christian motion picture industry.
I wish them both a speedy recovery so we can all go back to not enjoying them on our televisions that we hate.
Personally, I rather enjoy hating reality tv.
ANTM, Project Runway and Top Chef are the best.
NZs Hottest Baker was just so unjustifiably bad. I had to watch every episode.

Yuss my WW2 fantasies are being stretched by the mainstream media;
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/19/world/europe/19evacuation.html?hp
which has me wondering; how will Glenn Beck blame the Volcano on liberals? Or does it not mater because any pinko stupid enough to go to Europe should stay there and rot in socialist hell!

It will be very interesting to see how people get around this cloud. If its going to last for another week or so, then maybe they could be diverting long hauls from London to somewhere like Rabat (or Casablanca, that would be snazzy) and get people to bundle on to boats at South Hampton.
Somehow I don't see that happening, but it would be so pre WW2 world travel.

A stuff review of Coachella referred to Gil Scott Heron as a homeless man and got his name wrong (Gil Heron Scott).
OOh that made me mad!

I think I like the sound of this C42 deal. Mainly because it should mean more good content!
I wonder what it will mean for non IMNZ artists (um like me I guess).
By a share of advertising, does that mean a cut of the advertising revenue or like contra spots to promote yourself?
The APRA royalties for getting played on Juice TV or C4 are generally much better than say Bnet royalties. So for songwriters in 'alternative' bands (ie non commercial Hip Hop, Rock, Folk, Country, electro, um everything) music video plays can be a small but helpful lump of your bi-annual apra payments.
So I guess my concern would be for independent artists who perhaps don't get any commercial radio play, or sell many records but do maintain a high standard of cool videos (and good music). If this model crossed over to the other channels (where they may get less but still SOME play) would they then be missing out on an income stream they once had?
Well, thats a total hypothetical, based on very little grasp of what's actually happening!

Pixies were fab both nights. But Powerstation was better, BOBVIOUSLY. Powerstation is a really great venue, fantastic P/A and lots of good viewing angles.
PREG ROCK! Yes I concur. Well I managed to get my fairly preggers other half to both shows so...
...and I also had to be a fan boy and introduce myself to FB in the Powerstation bar. But hey I have all his solo albums. I even love the average ones. He is so fantastic.
The only bummer was that they played nothing off Bossanova. A
much misunderstood album. Now we just need Frank/Charles to come back for some solo shows...perhaps he could play Teenager of The Year from start to end. Might not get 12,000 people along mind you. -
Right $60k now....well that just makes it less likely that lower income earners would be registered, because it just seems like a hassle (and it kinda is).

And in full disclosure, I am a GST registered sole trader musician who can claim the GST on the new Connan Mockasin album when I go out and buy it next week.

We could have GST exemption on only the best cheeses?
The thing which gets me about the rise in GST (and excuse me if this point has come up on a different thread) is that many people wont pay much more GST at all. Those people are the GST registered sole traders, and CEOs with expense accounts for everything.
I have no idea what % of people in NZ make large claims against their GST, but I have a feeling that most wont be living below the poverty line. You don't have to register for GST if you earn below $30k and you can't register of (like most people) you are part of the PAYE tax system (am I right on these points..?).
It seems deeply unfair to be raising the cost of food by 2.5% at a time when the media are on a rampage (all be it a worthy rampage) to try and make people by healthier, less factory farmed, more in season, more local food. AND that richer people wont find the cost of their dinner at Logan Brown going up at all because it was a 'business meeting'.
