Hard News: Friday Music: Grey Fucking Area, in reply to
The painstakingly constructed big lie by a middle aged and middle class corporate media to feed to a middle aged and middle class audience of the cult of John Key as universally adored and loved in a tranquilized, hard-news free New Zealand is completely undercut by a roomful of young people.
Yep, that's what I've been thinking too. Incontrovertible evidence he is not popular with everyone. Hence the only way to respond is to label the offenders as deviants.
I also suspect that this brouhaha is quite helpful to IMP, in that no one they are likely courting is going to be offended or upset, and some people will go Wow, a party that comes out and says Fuck John Key is for me.

think I recall Phil Goff having exactly that shouted at him in the days of student loan protests.
Me too. May actually have done so myself.

Yeah we seem to end up employing a lot of them at work.

I am starting to think Devoy may have the capacity to do the job, and that is a pleasant surprise. My views on the irregularity of her appointment are unchanged.

If the GCSB wants to read my spam, they have my commiserations in advance.
That's funny, but the worrying scenario is that they* might read everything else too. From everybody. Or worse, not read it right now, but store it for later analysis, perhaps in the event that it is useful to publicly discredit you or recast an innocent remark as evidence in your trial. And the knowledge that they could do so is something of an impediment to activism of any kind.
*they could be another member of the Five Eyes network acting on their behalf.

News sites are rewarded for being first, and they want repeat page views.
So there are very strong incentives to get up a story as fast as possible (ie with minimal subbing and checking) and then update it continuously. Once readers know a story will likely develop over the day they'll keep refreshing.
Quality subbing and fact-checking is completely incompatible with the current online news model.

I asked him why it is Key’s credibility hasn’t been shredded long ago.
I think for his supporters one of two scenarios is playing out. Please imagine you, like more than 50% of NZers polled, are a Key fan.
Charming Rogue. Key has considerable personal charm, and we all like mavericks who keep getting away with it. The fact that there is a mountain of circumstantial evidence but nothing concrete just makes his getting away with it more delightful.
Masterful Bully. Is there a bigger demonstration of personal power than flatly lying, when everyone knows you're lying, and daring people to challenge you? If you like Muldoonist intimidation, you'll like this.
Whether you prefer larrikins or bullies, there's something for you here.

can it take a macron? (as it were)
I note that sprinkling words from one language into another is sometimes called macaronic...

it can be a disgusting little fight pit at times.
I am doing quite a bit of phone canvassing at the moment. It stands out how many people who don't vote or don't support any party follow up with a complaint about how politicians behave, usually mentioning behaviour in the House.
