In some academic circles, they do not refer to it as The News but rather as The Olds as the majority of content in evening television news bulletin follows a pre-determined pattern around a rigid set of 'news values', and even more it is borrowed from other sources (such as the morning newspaper).

First response suggests that Tim Shadbolt pops up to welcome them to Invercargill.
At which point I will stop watching--unless they push him off a cliff or run him over, of course!

Yikes. What did they do with that blow-up doll? Put it back in props?
Van seems to have taken an extra dose of stupidity pills over the summer break, whilst Munter has become a wise young mentor.
Cheryl pleading guilty? How will they tie her into the storylines now? Maybe she can develop a nice line in orange boiler-suit accessories!

I really liked James comment re The Wests (in Canvas), he loved them but wouldn't want to live next door to them.
Spin Doctors was a bit OK too. Seemed to be based on some first-hand knowledge.

* Ok, I could go out, but the light is just sooo bright!
Me too. Isn't it a bastard--all that sunshine streaming in the windows and I am lying on the couch, with a damp flannel over my eyes (just got up to refresh the flannel and to check if my legs still work!!)
Got to share the sympathy around. Some consolation in hearing some of the Julia Deans solo release on NatRad--sounds good.

But then the Film Commission is essentially paying for education, which is really not something I think that the Film Commission should be doing.
In my submission to the Review, I argued for more attention to be paid to education--but not training for filmmakers, but education of the audience--most especially building enthusiasm and a following for NZ films in schools. Media and English teachers are one of the best--and most passionate--advocates for NZ films (and film generally) but their students do not always share their enthusiasm. The Commission has produced study guides for particular films and these are great but it could do more eg filmmakers/scriptwriters in schools; testing films with students;making direct links with teachers (Jeremy Macey was doing this but he has now left the FC).

As much as I like the 48 Hour competition (and have been a regional judge in the past), I do agree that the suggestions in the Report do seem to be at odds with the cautions regarding short filmmaking. In respect of the genre emphasis of 48Hours, I have had several recent conversations with women (potential filmmakers too), who think it is very bloke-ish and overly oriented towards to splatter and excess (indeed, I once suggested to Ant that he bring in some rules, in order to create more invention in the narratives eg no guns, knives nor axes; no car cashes).

I sincerely hope some bright young student is keeping a close eye on this. It would make for a great Masters research project.
Hmmm! Mine seem too busy out partying to keep a close eye on anything.
We have a perfectly good shed down the back. Put a few Welsh fans in there with a keg?

I did keep reading on, in the review of the NZFC, in the hope that I might encounter a hint of gratitude or some mild praise--but it generally is one long whinge..and some good, final recommendations.
What drove me barmy (and call me a pedant, if you will) was the continuous misuse of it's for its. This is Grammar Error No. 1
