I sometimes see the whole H debate as a game of scrabble, and being dyslexic it loses me, but it is important.
It's about the dignity of a language and so a people. It's intangable cultural heritage that needs to be recognised if this we are to treat each other with dignity and respect as equals.
I'm working with a little idea that we don't need to convince Laws of this importance and should act as we will. He'll follow in a decade. To worry about him is to give him too much importance.

University based punishment is designed to appease the masses and give the criminal actions of the priviledged class a literal Get-out-of-Goal-Free card.
This discipline approach is part of the one law for all (of them & none of us) that exists in NZ.

Things to remeber about the first four ships.
*They weren't first. Three wave of Maori migration and continued occupation are recorded for 1000yrs. Europeans had settled on the Peninsula and the plains years earlier, often intermarrying with Ngai Tahu.
* If you're from the first four ships, odd are on that your mum was (at least) mail order. Notice how the respected families photos are from the 1880 on. -
I believe David Henderson was a member of ZAP. David is the CCCs biggest beneficiary = $17Million for failed property ventures.

In the early 90s dunnies was a riot and they cops were hit with darts.
I wasn't there but the next day the "Dunedins a Riot" Tee Shirts had already been printed including darts. And remeber kids "There are no bystanders in a Riot".

The class system is alive and well.
This just riot is like the terror of the Public Schools/Colleges had on their local townsin Tom Browns School Days.
These kids have been brought up with a real sense of their entitlement along with the tacit approval of the Canty Uni Cop Bill Timms and his mantra "Remeber what it's like to be young?" A real life Skullion from Porterhouse and even in Blue.

Bring back the nude olympics, taking the technology out of shoes and clothes. Then scrape off the sweat and auction it off as an elixor to life. As they always did in the ancient games.
I think this is terribly sad that anybody let alone an 18yr old is subject to such personal critique.
Maybe we're taking sport far too seriously and putting far too much value in this level of competition?

Islander - on fishing I think catch and release is just cruel when done as a sport. Although I must agree I'm not good at fishing, therefore, if I catch it I'll eat it (subject to size/season).

Here's a related link. The MoD Defence Review 2009.
If we want the US to chill, are we gonna chill a bit more too?

I often see a searching for meaning & community. To a greater or lesser extent religion (or the Golf Club) offers this.
Not wanting to push any particular group, but we're social animals and it does seem to be a void in modern life.
