I find it disturbing that charities operate in a *competitive* environment. Perhaps that is the whole problem - they are not charities in the traditional sense of the word, they seem more like businesses?

Yet another great commentary from you Russell. The observation about John Campbell is on the money - he has increasingly became a blow-hard in recent times. And I have no doubt that in years to come Helen Clark will be seen as one of our greatest ever PM's.
Why o why cant other commentators be as objective and as sharp as you?

I love that: 'papal indulgences', but the links not working - wouldnt mind seeing it.
That was a most enjoyable read James - I may not agree with everything u said, but I do with the general direction of it.One of the best I've read in 3 or 4 yrs I been reading PA.
