But why did John Key do a sudden volte face? Is it because he personally saw no problem with handing back the land but when it was put to his colleagues in cabinet, they did? If he was convinced it was the right thing to do, shouldn't he then be trying to convince the naysayers, instead of meekly folding to their demands? It seems a little spineless to me; the first time the National Party's 'base' jump up and down a little and he gets cold feet.

The current National government are running the country the way the kings of old used to do it; greedy for money and dont give a shit who they step on to get it. These recent developments just sadden me further.

Does anyone know the status of 'nigger' the dog in the remake of The Dambuster's movie?

It seems to me that TVNZ and TV3 did not bid in order to force the price down - probably with the Nat govt's approval (if that's not illegal then its highly unethical I would imagine, which is why they cannot publicly admit to it.) MTS saw an opportunity to grab it from the mainstream and took it. Good on them, I say. But now their actions have forced the govt's hand and they'll be forced to pay market rates.
I mean can one really believe that the greatest sporting event to come to our shores was not going to be broadcast nationwide on free-to-air TV? I cant. The Nats have been caught with their pants down thanks to Pita Sharples.

"So, let me get this right: Rodney is flying around the world to tell people at free lunches (which, of course, do not exist) about ideas which he holds dear but are not Government policy; all at public expense.
I wonder if a Taypayer Bill of Rights would deal with this sort of thing."
I assume he also earns a fee for this 'speaking tour'? Talk about a gravy train...And isnt John Key in Nth America at the same time?

Why cant people forsake their principles for the good of the children? I voted 'yes' even though I dont think smacking should be a criminal offence. Does the person counting the vote care if it was my 'honest' opinion? What was far more important was to deny Baldock & Co. their day in the sun. Wise up suckers!

More than 20 years ago - 1987 to be precise - the police tried to prosecute me for driving under the influence of morphine. My lawyer at the time told me it was a 'test' case. The judge threw the case out because they couldnt show that the morphine had caused the accident (I drove into a lampost.) So what has changed since then? Are they now able to demonstrate a correlation between the two? The upshot of these new laws will be an awful lot of firivilous cases clogging up the courts where anyone with a half-decent lawyer will be able to wriggle out of the charges.

Has the interview with McLelland on the TVNZondemand clip been removed? Every time I try to watch it it skips to part 3? I've tried to watch it 4 times - with the same result on each.
