That's interesting, he told Kathryn Ryan, on 9 to noon, that it was due to a chat with Cullen that they had at a conference in Australia.
He didn't actually say that "it was all down to me" and actually passed up the opportunity to do so. Do we see the emergence of a McCully spin???? -

Not at all. You could well get the same result with proper scientific polls asking the same questions (as they are very different questions).
I doubt there is anyone who considers the amendment makes the bill worse (though many don't think it makes a difference).
I'm one of those people who voted one way on one poll and the other on the other. The amendment makes the bill more palatable, though personally, I'd have preferred Key's original wording, but this is better - the polls reflect this.
Think of an analgous question:
are you pleased that the proposal to add 50% to the price of petrol has been cut to add only 20%?
- most people think yes (the Stuff poll).Is the petrol price increase now a good idea?
- most people still think no (the Herald poll). -
I think the internet polls simply reflect the new state of confusion.
The Parliamentary debate is on now. Judith Collins spoke in favour of the bill. Heather Roy spoke against. And Sue Bradford and Judith Collins will now both be supporting the same law.
When two people who fundamentally disagree end up wanting the same thing, while two people who largely agree are on opposite sides, something is wrong.
This really does seem to be the amendment that says whatever you want it to say.

true. it's the amendment that lets National de-couple itself from the fundy-right without losing too much face, and which allows National to u-turn despite any changes while making them look like their pretend concerns with the previous (ie. exactly the same) version were justified.
