As far as Im aware, the songs have always been acknowledged as a collaboration. It’s hardly like some evil foreign mega-producer was flown in under cover of night.
She's hardly been coy about acknowledging her producer:
She works with producer Joel Little whom she credits with turning her "pages and pages of something" into song form. "You know how Raymond Carver had Gordon Lish, the editor who made him what he was? I feel like Joel was that for me.

But it actually made me angry.
Me too. It can, and has, hurt people. I just hate the fact it will be giving him unwarranted attention. Then again I very much doubt he noticed my silent protest of blocking him. But I felt better.

And, to be frank, who even gives a shit? If there's some group of Svengalis in a smoke-filled back room plotting what to do with a pop artist, I seriously couldn't give two flying fucks as long as the popster is happy and the songs are good. The amount of concern-troll wank dedicated to this issue is LUDICROUS. Dance, or not. Sing along, or not. Like it, or not. Don't *drone on* about how we're being *played* because it doesn't follow some formula involving four working-class guys playing Hamburg and then conquering America. FUCK.
(This is one of my giant musical bugbears. Obviously. :) )

Success is a great revenge.
Yup, hope she breaks all the way to #1. It's not my kind of music at all, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't recognize talent and hope for stardom for one of our children. I don't watch shotput on a daily basis either, but I'll watch our star getting a gold medal, for sure.

Was totes about to make a "Whatevs, The Beatles weren't even that good" joke, but dude: Wrong room.

And now, in the hope of supplanting Sweetman's images and opinions, Janelle Monae: 'I don't believe in slut-shaming or saying that a woman should be restricted, and I think it's important to encourage all women to be free.'

You can have an amen on that every time I hear "Sugar Sugar". Don Kirshner slipped it out under the phony Archies name because The Monkees were entering their snooty period and refused to record it. Revenge is a dish best served on every AM station in America. Good motivations have so little to do with good music, or however Robert Christgau phrased it.

There's also a clip of 'Royals' from the same show. Which is hosted by the super-cool Antoine de Caunes!

It looks like she's on basically the same European promo tour that Lane Del Rey died on last year.

That's the nutshell. Showing how NZers can do and do do great things. Seeing that in music, arts, the youth America's Cup, the main event and many other areas. I find it inspirational. Others don't, that's fine. But the cynicism can be grinding.

Pete,
Russell, the rest of us stopped listening to that spankcarrot at least 3 years ago.
Jumped the shark, not worth dignifying with a response, right down there with Anders Brevik, you get the idea
Do not EVER borrow a Farmers catalogue from this man

...Lane Del Rey died on last year.
Was that Lois Lane Del Rey Gun Zzap you meant?
Blue Kryptonite would affect the progeny of Lois Lane and Kal El, aka Clark Kent, aka Superman, in just such a fashion, I believe... -
The discussion here around pop, and Miley in particular, brings to mind this post by Graham Reid a while ago Police. Security. Screams. A singer comes to town if you substitute Miley for Bieber.

New Zealand has been trolled by Sweetman....again....lol.

Miley Cyrus riding demolition equipment naked, that’s sexualisation.
Lorde, yeah nah.
Oh, for fuck's sake -- wouldn't it be awesome if folks stopped defending Lorde against slut-shaming and sex-policing by pulling the same crap on Miley Cyrus? Here's a radical idea: Both Lorde and Miley Cyrus get to exercise their agency as sentient adult women however the fuck they want. Don't like it? Don't look.

That album release is going to be pretty massive. What's the record number of album sales for a New Zealand artist?

Yes! We can be a roving band of ranting poptimists!
