Who knows, perhaps you're right. I could always fire off an email to her and ask of course... like a real journalist.

Russell, I notice you didn't get any traction on the rumour about Langwell possibly getting the role as editor.
I've heard the same rumour, which doesn't make it any more or less true, especially as Russ and I probably hang around the same commie cafes.
I also heard that the reason she will be taking the step up is because Shayne Currie (HOS current editor) will be stepping up to the top job at the Herald. Other than to say SC dropped the column I wrote for the HOS. And that I think the only real purpose the HOS has served is to make the SST look better...

The reason for that is his comments on when Helen Clark was visiting the Pope, and there was some comment about whether or not she would, like when she met the Queen, wear a trouser suit.
Yeah, either that or a press sec who was more sympathetic to JT than to HC... I'm pretty sure I know who wrote it from the get go, but prepared to be proven wrong.

So Craig, rather than talking about Jennifer Hudson and p0rn spammers here, can I just ask for your honest opinion about NZNat banning this guy based on the comments he made?
-
People on the public payroll should not use copyright to try and quell speech.
Couldn't agree more. I've just posted a story over at Cracker about a guy who got banned from commenting on the Nat's YouTube videos simply because he didn't agree with them. The Nats need to understand if they're going to use this medium, it's a two-way street.

On the other hand, we're not always good at acknowledging excellent service when we get it.
You're quite right, and I should mention the lovely lady at the Koru Lounge in Wellington who is always great to deal with, and tried her best when I fronted with my problem.
One thing I always try and adhere to in these situations, and that's not shooting the messenger. I try and remain unfailingly polite to the people giving me the bad news - unless they're the ones directly responsible for it. I try to be as nice as possible when I'm on the phone with the IRD, Baycorp (with whom I fortunately haven't had to deal for some time) and the like. It might sound obvious, but I'm sure the people working at these places must just get call after aggressive call.
Likewise, media - if you're listening to a radio show or watching something on the telly you really like, why not ring and say so. I can't tell you how nice it is to receive a phone call when I'm doing a radio show simply saying "nice show, really enjoying your tunes" or what have you.

Yeah, perhaps understandably I've been having a lot of soul searching discussions about the true nature of 'giving up', and the main difference with the Carr-ians is the idea that no, you're not 'giving up' anything. There is no benefit, no enjoyment, other than brief respite from your 'withdrawal' symptoms.
I can see the point, which is why I really don't feel like I'm 'missing out' this time. Still, I get a bit twitchy when I have long drawn-out conversations about it. Nervy, rather than reaching for the cigs though.
I find a good alcohol-related challenge essential in the first week or so. Like Jesus being tempted by the dessert or whatever that bible story is. Throw yourself in there and if you can survive the night, it'll take a helluva lot to break you after that.

The PS3 is getting a Freeview compatible receiver dongle and PVR software.
Really? Shit, there's an excuse to buy a PS3 I'd never thought of.

And a Delorean (sp)!

That was telling and disgusting.
I dunno, I agree it doesn't look good, but to me it looks more like he was starting to get a bit worried by this person who'd been following him around with a camera for the last god-knows-how-long (and who wasn't part of the official John Key Camera Crew(TM))
Still, knowing someone ELSE was filming him, he should've been even more careful to give the woman at least the appearance of a listening ear.
