Dean Knight proposes a more sensible alternative.

Meanwhile, conservative thinker "BustedBlonde" tweets:
whats w/ all the communists who wnt 2 paralyse ChCh cos they think a group hug is needed b4 & restoration decisons r made? #eqnz - idjits
I think that puts things in their proper perspective.

HE WHO IMPUGNS THE USURERS IMPERILS
THE STATEMum and Dad had a nice hardback of the collected works on the bookshelf. I set "Down on my luck" to piano in 7th form music. I should dig that score up, actually.

Every time the honours list comes out, I think of Roll Out The Knightcart.
(You young people may not know that night carts, ie horse-drawn wagons that took away your shit and piss in lieu of a sewage system, were still a living memory at the time ARD was writing).

My beloved flew down to Chch this morning to be with her family, because she could take no more of hearing their distress at a distance. Luckily, their houses are ok and still on the grid. I expect she will be out and joining the students tomorrow if there's nothing to be done at home.
What can one say? What has happened is terrible enough, what keeps happening must be intolerable. Best wishes to you all.

It makes shared cycle-pedestrian areas quite a lot more hazardous. Even if you politely tinkle your non-threatening bell as loud as you can, you can't warn some people that you're behind them because they have noise-cancelling insulation from the outside world.

the National party's rump squatocracy that had money in SCF
Many people apart from horrible Tories had money in SCF. Eg, my Dad was advised by professionals to put money in there several years ago, in securities that still haven't matured. At the time this seemed neither greedy nor rash, and I'm certainly glad he's come out ok. I think we could ease up on the black and white thinking, and the conclusion jumping.
At some point I would love to see a Media 7 that reviews the marvellous coverage Hubbard and SCF received last year, the year before, and further back, and asks whether financial journalists could have tried a bit harder. I know there was a great episode with a retired finance journo a few months ago, but one that focussed on the creation of the Hubbard myth would be nice.

I guess everyone has some sort of axe to grind - sometimes it's financial, sometimes its about being in with the cool kids.
There are other times, aren't there?

Also, we may have found the origin of the Sensible Sentencing Trust's views:
Aorta mica laura genst all these prairlers and sleshers an pervs. Aorta puttem in jile an shootem.

Ian, someone has laboriously typed out Afferbeck Lauder's magnum opus here.
My parents had copies of Lets Stalk Strine and Nose Tone Unturned. They may have been formative.
