compileobacter…
I note that the NY Times Bestseller book Love is a Mixtape (2007) by Rolling Stone staff writer Rob Sheffield includes a selection of Flying Nun acts including The Bats, Chills, Verlaines, Dead C and OMC from NZ as well!
I think there is even a spotify playlist based on them - but i can't be sure 'cos I've never signed up! -
It's the 'Pill-Pressbyterians' vs 'The Meth-ODists'...

These editors make much of "the communities we serve" yet I've noticed Fairfax's coverage of major events in Chchch has dropped away unless they sponsor it or it is a Fairfax Media Events event - it's a 'community of interest' they serve not actually all the people that make up a community...
They enable Facebook and Google by publishing their own material on line to be reaggregated before the print edition comes out - for no good reason in many cases (ie: not time crucial information).
They have lost their way! -

Boo! Tea! call...
The Drugs and Popular Culture episode seems to miss out Posters and Comics - no dayglo leaf poster boutiques, no Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, Robert Crumb or Harold Hedd (which all made their way to NZ thru Student or Underground mags and shops - what about Barry Linton's Auckland life comic glimpses in various places and Burton Silver's dope munching hedgehogs in The Listener! - Heck even Spiderman and Green Arrow dropped the Comics Code accreditation badge to present drug stories, all available here...
I know DeQuincey is alluded to but was Burroughs or Emmett Grogan or even Kerouac ... all big sellers here in certain circles.
Not music but comedy! - Cheech and Chong had a big NZ following - I know I went to their Chchch show - I can't remember a thing from it! - that was down to the alcohol though... -

If this God burk goes around killing baby seals isn’t he/she/it criminally liable for harming protected animals?
Uplifting stuff is fine but there has been a lot of disempauament on the coast as well...
