The 200 metres semis.
Bolt comes into the straight first equal. He starts jogging towards the line but the other guy is hanging in there.
Bolt gives him the glare as if to say “just stop it man”
20 metres later he’s still hanging in there, Bolt gives him another stare. And then 2 more stares.
20 metres out and it’s still even.
So Bolt starts sprinting for 2 paces and leaves him for dead.
Superb theatre.

Because the origins of softball in this country are based around companies in order to keep their workers fit and happy etc.
Businesses in Wellington were particularly active in this; Gear meats in Petone and Todd Motors in Porirua. That’s why those areas are the traditional strongholds of softball in this country.
Quite why those companies chose a women’s sport for this is unknown.
These days business houses tend to promote indoor netball.

Softball is a women’s only sport at the Olympics. Baseball is the men’s sport.
Rightly so too.

Yet when Walker, Snell and Lovelock achieved their feats it was at a time when British, and other Northern European running was a lot stronger. Both in terms of performance and general interest.
Sorry, the more I think about Willis’s comments the more I’m uncomfortable with them.
Does anyone know anything about this College in the States where he trains?

The main criteria for what constitutes an Olympic sport should be whether it is the pinnacle of that particular sport. In most cases that is the case, although the 2 obvious casualties from such a ruling would be football and tennis.
And the problem there is that they (particularly football) are such a money spinner.
I also don’t like sports where judging of aesthetics is a crucial part. That affects diving, gymnastics, synch swimming, some boxing and probably a few others I can’t think of right now. Although I’d admit that is less of an issue since the end of the last Cold War.
As I’ve said previously, swimming needs to be stripped right back, largely because of the imbalance it puts on the medal table. Cycling is close to falling into that category too/
And motor racing totally goes against the Olympian concept; even if it did involve identical cars.
And on a separate note; how many people were just so thrilled to see a bit of awkward banter between Peter Williams, Jim Hickey and whoever else was around instead of NZ win a yachting gold live last night?

Yup, that’s the one.
It starts off by talking about him taking on the African runners, presumably because the winner came from an Asian country.
Then there’s something along the lines of how he followed in the footsteps of Lovelock, Snell and Walker. What he’s actually done is followed in the footsteps of Davies and Dixon.
Then he talks about Willis’s “Victory Lap” which is an interesting term.
Then the nonsense that RL talks about in regards to giving white people all round the world hope.
Now, I don’t want to belittle Willis’s achievement, but that really is rubbish. -
Hinton scrapes some large barrels with his Willis article in Stuff today.
Not only racist, but inaccurate on several counts.
An appalling piece. -
Good commitment from those of you who managed to navigate around that TVNZ comments page.
I mean: “You did great in the olympics you must be so proud of your self for winning a gold medal we feel proud of you too.”
And that’s one of the better ones.
And then I scrolled down the page to see a spectacularly cheesy mug-shot of Macbeth and Quinn…

'You're an inspiration for white New Zealand men.'
Well that’s a relief. I am in desperate need for more inspiration in my life.

Is there no end to the NZ dominance at the games?
Stuff gushingly noting that the Australian who won Gold in today’s triathlon has a father who was “originally from Masterton”
