Not musicky but still cool: Scott Kelly shows us around his workplace - the viewing cupola of the International Space Station. The station is much bigger than I expected, and the views are superb. (Audio starts 0:24)

Hard News: The Engagement, in reply to
Oh, okay. I am reliably informed that Camilla did say "wicked"
From today's Evening Standard (not online):
Asked about her views of the impending royal nuptials the Duchess of Cornwall proclaimed on camera: "It's wicked!" [...] What the TV cameras didn't show was that the Duchess was interviewed exiting an awards ceremony at the Apollo Theatre, home of The Wizard of Oz musical, Wicked. She had been judging a children's writing competition, the Wicked Young Writers' Awards, and used the phrase as a joke.
Just call me a royal apologist.

Headline read over someone's shoulder on the Tube last night:
'Press delighted over royal wedding announcement'
That just about sums it up for me. And Leopold said:
and Charlie, if ever gets to be king, has chosen George VII for his name (Charles just far too Stuartish)
Sounded a bit far-fetched to me in this day and age, but it only took a moment's hunting to find this 2005 article to show that Charles is at least considering re-naming himself. It would be pretty damn odd though. And Kay Cee Three has got a rhyming thang goin' on.

At least if William and Kate's first child is a girl that might spur the establishment to sort out the anachronistic rules of male primogeniture. Although perhaps largely irrelevant elitist traditions such as the monarchy are beyond adapting to contemporary cultural mores.

Until then get along to the freakin Roller Derby! Both Auckland and Wellington have bouts this weekend and both look like they'll be HUGE.
I'm not having a pop or anything - would like to check out roller derby at some point - but did y'all see the following from Stuff White People Like?
If you meet a white girl with black hair, tattoos, and a passion for horror films, there is a 100 percent chance that she plays in some sort of Roller Derby league. The sport reached its height of popularity in the seventies, thus all but guaranteeing that white people would eventually resurrect it in a fit of nostalgia and irony. But the sport draws in white people for many other reasons, including funny costumes and the opportunity for women to compete under clever pseudonyms like Arianna Puffington and Sarah Nailin’.

I can think of no similar rationale for Miss Peru's costume:
The world's first pop-up supermodel - she comes in her own pre-loaded Peruvian ceremonial barrel. Just press the handy concealed button and she springs out for instant catwalk action. $10,000-just-to-get-out-of-bed not required.

In Mississippi in the 60s, that used to mean lots of light didn't it? Plus some cruxiform timber and accelerant?
Don't forget it's a problem on the Kapiti Coast too:

Going back to the Paul Holmes quote, I loved this line (emphasis added):
Certainly, the Historic Places Trust, whoever they are, think so.
Here's a clue, Paul. It's in the title.
And re: the Once Upon A Time In The West screening, I saw a print here three weeks ago and there was definitely no major scratches or obvious deterioration in the audio or visuals. Maybe someone's got an unrestored copy by mistake?

Referendum on introducing legislation to provide for ostracism, anyone?
Haden hates ostriches too? I'm pretty sure that's not against the law.

I have a sneaking suspicion that many of the people involved in these plans should've been instantly disqualified for thinking it's pronounced 'par-tay'.
