  • Cracker: Wallywood,

There's a computer on the capsule.

Don't forget to bring the right codec for your AVI.

It's hard to imagine any kind of data that would be more wasteful to bring than a movie.

  • Cracker: Wallywood,

If I was to be forced to take only one movie, I'd take one I haven't already seen. It could be a lemon, sure, but any movie is going to get old real fast if it's the only one you've got.

If I had only one GB, I'd take e-books. I might even finally get around to reading them.

  • Cracker: Wallywood,

Existentialism after Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. There is a spooky protocol to these things.

It's rude to jump straight to Existentialism.

To reassure any CYFS representative who may be in attendance, we fast forward through the toll booth scene.

Good call, high speed turns tragedy into comedy.

  • Cracker: Wallywood,

I have the dvd for you, and I believe you'll like something about it beyond reputation

It's queued up in Fatso about 2 from now. If I hadn't got started on Outrageous Fortune (the allure of all that rude sex and swearing drew me in) I'd have seen it by now.

  • Hard News: Aspie On,

We pulled one out of the lucky bag; our small is currently present, participating and ORRS funded. I could write a book about how that came to pass.

I'd read it. Nice to hear from you, btw. Another one takes the plunge!

  • Cracker: Wallywood,

Rich, I must be Asian then, because I loved The Seven Samurai and was also bemused by Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon , and have still yet to see Citizen Kane despite a lifetime of assurances I can't live without it.

  • Cracker: Wallywood,

You forget I'm the postmodernist figure of fun around here. Objective value judgments are like kryptonite to me.

Me too, but I don't claim titles I don't understand. Rather than "postmodern" I go for "skeptical".

  • Cracker: Wallywood,

Technically, that sentence doesn't make sense, does it?

Needs more clarification. I meant, it's almost certain you can find some individual or group who will say CK is better.

If a director makes a film with robot in the title, you are entitled to a robot. That is a simple matter of truth in advertising.

Was there a monster though? If so, it was at least less of a gyp than Pirsig's book.

Btw, a blunt saw probably makes a better torture implement. It might also be a bit safer for children to use.

  • Cracker: Wallywood,

[edit to add context, brutally robbed by intervening Tiso post]

Okay, you got me. There Is No Such Thing As Meaning. I submit. ;)

Hey, that's still in doubt too. Safest to say "There's no consensus on the nature of Meaning"

Sure, but if you're trying to prove that it's all subjective, then you must accept that Citizen Kane is no better than Robot Monster.

It's not objectively better. It almost certainly is subjectively better.

    [edit: LOL, ta Gio]

  • Cracker: Wallywood,

    Okay, but why?

Well, in my case, having seen neither film (Fatso hasn't got Kane to me yet), I'd go with "because people rave about it". Which I don't think is a small matter, when it comes to aesthetic value.
