  • Up Front: The C Word,

I/S true...I meant dual class. You had to start as multiclass. I guess only people with dual class parentage get to do that.

  • Up Front: The C Word,

Yes, and yes. But there are particular abilities and advantages that can transfer across both classes and really help out, like being observant, and a good mimic, and having great boobies.

Forgot too, in that metaphor, you can't gain any further XP in your old class. So your old party will forge ahead in the working class cred, and will easy defeat you in any encounter for quite some time. Fortunately the first levels of your new class are easiest, so you'll unlock the higher level middle class abilities and gain comfort with them soon enough. One of the first ones that can stand the old class on their heads quickly is first level Being Happy, which is a fantastic counter even for level 15 Working Class Blues. Beware anyone who has learned Accusations of False Consciousness, though. Run from them until you've mastered the counters. Your hit points should rise quickly with level 2 Specialist Health Care, although this can strain the gold.

Please note, on Middle Class missions you can only wear your hard won Slutty Pants under a matching Pant Suit, but the Pant Suit does add bonus rudeness to them.

  • Up Front: The C Word,

I'm not sure you do, either, but I think maybe you develop the ability to move between them?

So people become multi-class? You have to start at zero XP in the new class, though.

  • Up Front: The C Word,

Did anyone else find it disturbing to discover Emma drinks instant coffee?

No, I found it empowering. Now I can confess my own dirty instant coffee secret. Sometimes, if the milk is too low to make a latte, I'll drink instant, sometimes even more than one cup. Also coffee bags are a lovely alternative to all the mucking around with a percolator. This from a man who's been middle class all his life.

  • Up Front: The C Word,

What if you remove real estate agents from the equation? They even call me up to beg.

  • Up Front: The C Word,

I don't do squees but suffice to say that internally I am doing little whoops of joyfulness.

That actually sounds even nicer than a squee. A multiple squee?.

I'm pleased to have elicited this revelation. As for the race, well, I may not have 899 pages, but I'm also not angling for any prizes other than the finish line itself, so perhaps I've got a chance. Don't slacken the pace, Islander, this marathon ain't over till it's over :-)

  • Hard News: Local Heroes?,

Has anyone seen or posted this. Quite pertinent.

Yes, and I don't think the timing issue of Chris Carter will be that important. This statistic will still be true next month, and the "brush off" is on record.

and Ben Wilson - pats 899 pages of ms* 8>)

    <gulp/><looks hopelessly over assorted notes/>

Disclaimer: I bought a dinner jacket a few years ago because it was more cost effective to own one than to keep renting the damn things.

The kind of economy only available to the wealthy! I did the same, it cost $700 and paid itself off that year, I was invited to 7 black tie occasions and the standard suit hire was $100. Everything after that was gravy.

There are fewer extremes, but your chances of encountering someone in a certain situation - school, uni, a mate's party - and then realising they are at a very different end of the spectrum to you are higher, I think, at least if you're noticing that the spectrum exists in the first place.

True that, particularly since most of our best schools are public, and higher education is pretty cheap. But I would also suggest that classlessness isn't entirely mythical and probably on that score - access to a number of the things that traditionally distinguish class is very wide. In Ozzie I met very few people who hadn't gone to private schools.

  • Southerly: Confessions of a Social Retard,

I understood that any skill in essay writing that might be useful in metaphysics and epistemology would be useless in logic.

I dispute that. I only passed Stage 3 logic because of my essay writing :-)

But yes, I can see that an obsession with numbers scores highly in that test.

"we need to talk" to which I replied, promptly and confidently, 'no we don't."

LOL. You need a hunky FBI agent to knock those mathematical angles off.
