Hard News: Terror panics and the war imperative, in reply to
You're right in everything you say Grant, but ISIL are like no other animal we've encountered. They want our disgust and they want our bombs because that's what brings recruits to their nasty sectarian crusade. All we can do is humanitarian work where we can and wait for the Sunnis in Iraq and Syria to reject their toxic parasite.

National Governments will never quell their feelings of shame and resentment over the whole nuclear-free thing, so they feel an eternal obligation to follow America into whatever shit pit they're currently raining death on. I know I'm just a liberal but I'd feel better if Helen Clark was in the driver's seat right now. I don't trust Key's instincts on this one tiny bit.

28 years after being banned for life from NBC by Lorne Michaels, The Replacements appeared this week on Jimmy Fallon. As sentimental as it gets.

Can't help but chalk this up as a win for Key. Most New Zealanders would cheerfully hang Dotcom out to dry for hobbits (that email is far too good to be true) and I'm prepared to bet the GSCB stuff gets no traction with a fatigued and cynical populace. Now if he'd done something serious like sign the back of a picture HE DIDN'T PAINT, well, that would be another matter.
We have to acknowledge though, some of the glitter has finally fallen off the turd.

If anything says 'Jakob' it's a Soundcloud waveform that looks like that.

I like Courtney Barnett. Her font of lyrical wisdom does have a bottom but she has a great schtick and her voice is deceptively strong for one who wishes to sound so diffident. And her record is called "A Sea of Split Peas" which is awesome. I hope she makes it here too but I get the feeling she's working the Northern Hemisphere pretty hard right now.
Mind you, this is even better.....

English has really struggled to make Labour's economic policies sound looney or dangerous. He and Key both claimed that they rescued the country from imaginary deficits. Labour have more problems than Iraq right now but a lack of coherent, imaginative economic policies is NOT one of them.

Serco. The tapeworm in the bowels of government. How did they get in here? Did David Cameron have something to do with it?
