This may be too much work, but on other sites I've seen a widget stating the monthly operating costs (whatever they entail) and an update of how much has been donated that month. Maybe a target would be helpful for some, maybe not.

It’s been a while since I’ve had to, but as I recall, at the lower end, Derby’s can be purchased for as little as 2.5¥ (50c) a pack, most of the brands you see young people smoking cost between 5-10 ($1-2).

I’d be very wary of fomenting any rivalry there, at this point they occupy very different spaces in online music media. Simon is a critic, and the releases he reviews come almost exclusively from signed artists. Russell, a journalist, is a discoverer; regularly championing unsigned talent, exposing it to wider audiences, a position in which having at least one digit on the pulse of the industry is essential.
