  • Hard News: Weekend Warriors,

Okay, maybe this will stick ...

    I don't think so, somehow.

What will stick from today is Obama called her a pig and Obama referred to his Muslim faith.

I think they're getting to him, quite frankly. The latter faux pas is truly a classic.

Do you think it would be immoral to have such a thing? What do you think people's reactions would be if you pulled out such recordings?

A guy called Gordon Bell beat you to it. Google MyLifeBits for more info.
He used to work for Microsoft, then he retired to pursue Gates' idea of the totally documented life. He spoke at Victoria a couple of years ago, in front of IT students mostly, and when it came to questions, none of them were interested in the technical aspects, but mostly in the ethical and existential ones. Which is too bad, because he was solely interested in the technical aspects.

Seldom I have encountered a dullest person.

The golden rule is (so my reading tells me) is never pack something that you might like to see again

I pack my luggage with crumpled newspaper and the occasional brick. But as far as my insurance company is concerned, it's all diamonds and rolled up Van Goghs.

I'm going to be rich some day.

  • Hard News: Weekend Warriors,

Every tory wants this election to be a debate about credibility, foreign policy and visions going forward.

Sure. Except there is a not negligible chance that what McCain will get to see going forward is the inside of a coffin. In that regard Palin's choice is as perplexing as it is irresponsible, if Macca did in fact have all those good things at the top of his agenda.

Fact is, on the more than legitimate grounds for debate that you enumerate - credibility, foreign policy, vision for the future - McCain as of two weeks ago was toast, done, finito. He picked Palin hoping to shake things up and make the campaign winnable again. Hardly a principled approach, in light of the dangers.

  • Hard News: Need to Know,

Sounds like Glenn is taking a parting shot at the PM and Williams in his Press conference this morning,

""Mr Williams is wrestling with the truth"... Don't we all?

A diarist called "The Australian" on dKos shows us how it's done with the best Palin moniker I've heard yet: Sarah: Duchess of Pork.

    Respect.

I didn't realise it was UEFA's decision. I always understood that it was up to the local association how they qualified teams for the Champions League.

The criteria have to be the same across the board. Platini is keen to have the national cup winners qualify, but he's also keen to reduce the number of teams from the top countries from four to three.

Not a new idea but: FA Cup winners should get direct Champions League entry, that would help re-incentivise that competition.

Totally agree, but the idea has been nixed again this summer by UEFA.

  • Hard News: Weekend Warriors,

Everyone's been going on about this for days and McCain is now ten points ahead....

(__holds out hand__) See me shake? You cut could a diamond on this thing </colbert>

It's four points among registered voters. Ten according to the rubbish metric of likely voters. And it's the convention bump, nothing to see here. I'll start worrying if and only if the swing state polls start turning
significantly. At the moment Obama has a lock on the electoral college.

(And it's not just that I'm an old West Wing junkie who lives to say things like "so and so has a lock on the electoral college". Although I am that too.)
