My younger boy has it in him to follow the creative path, it will be interesting to see if he gets hooked. I can't possibly recommend it as a sensible path in this world of getting and spending but secretly I'd be thrilled.

I think this thread needs a good dose of the good Sir Ken. Whew, it had been been almost two weeks since the last time I linked to him.

But. glory be, all healthy. thriving now, and diversifying-

I'm hoping one day to have a portfolio of diversified children myself. I'm thinking one in property, one in shares and the third in bonds.

  • Hard News: Crash and Contempt,

With all due respect to people like Cafferty, Giovanni, they might want to avoid the kind of hubris that got the GOP exactly where it is today.

Insofar as they're talking about republicans, not conservatives, I think they have a point. And for the GOP to shift back to being a conservative party would take a massive shifts in policies and approach.

  • Hard News: Crash and Contempt,

If ever you needed proof that Pipes is certifiable, and American conservatism has mutated into something that cannot live, this is it.

It's in its last throes, I wouldn't worry too much. Cafferty and the many others who are foreseeing a future of irrelevance for republicans have got it right. They managed to win a couple more elections that they had any business winning, but it was a pretty scary devil's pact that they made in the process. The Palin choice falls into that particular brand of desperation, and demonstrates that even McCain, forecast by some to be able to rescue conservatism from the Rovian playbook, has recognised that appealing to unreason is the only road to power for his lot at the moment.

61% of all campaign stories were about Sarah Palin.

    They're nuts.

I know that we don't count somehow, but on this site the Sarah Palin quotient was probably closer to 90%.

I wasn't suggesting they were involved with Obama, but presumably sympathetic to the cause of electing him. Then again, maybe not.

Bothering the scientologists seems an altogether worthy cause.

Instead, he made a misogynist personal attack (yes, it is misogynist, look up hysteria).

Banking on John Key to know that particular etymology would seem imprudent.

    Wow ...

Sarah Palin's (in)famous Yahoo account has been hacked.

    For real.

Talk about playing into your opponent's hand when the national news are giving you a huge boost.

Oh, the stupidity of it all.

I also like very much these battleground state polls showing Florida and Ohio neck and neck, and Indiana close. Bearing in mind that Obama has many more paths to winning the math than McCain - if he clinches Florida (where he was trailing by almost ten until not long ago) it's game over.

Obama now back in the lead of three of the four major tracking polls ...

It was always going to happen (and I'm saying this in the grand tradition of pretending I knew the first thing about this sort of stuff) but I'm sure that the timing of it has everything to do with Palin disappearing from the front pages. The silver lining of hurricanes and the stock market collapses?
