I meant lucky enough, not like enough.

Crikey, Emma. Crikey and blimey.
I have solemnly pledged to myself that when my kids go through teenagehood I shall refrain in any way possible from giving them the impression that I know what they're going through, and that anyhow it's just a phase. Hell, life is just a phase. But if you're like enough to have had it easy and nice until you hit puberty, that's when things start to get serious, isn't it? And sometimes precipitously, frighteningly so.

I'm not buying the idea that if another city doesn't have something that Auckland has, this means that Auckland is the one doing it wrong, not the other way around.
I agree. The logo is a stupid idea because it's a stupid idea, not because other cities aren't doing it. Also, if we're at the edge, can somebody explain to me why the logo is fraying like that? The message that it conveys to me is, Auckland: if somebody pulls the thread we're fucked.
Hey, so maybe now we have a slogan too.

Does New York have a logo?
Does London have a logo?
Does Paris have a logo?
Hell, does Sydney have a logo?I would be very surprised if London and Paris didn't have a logo, most European cities do. By way of example, Rome has two babies suckling on a wolf's teats, Turin has the bull, Venice has the winged lion, Florence has the lily.
And my hometown of Milan has a serpent in the act of eating (or possibly spitting out, it's hard to say) a child. I'd like to point out that I wasn't involved in that particular choice.

(My tooth aches and I will not be seeing a dentist until later in the day. Crotchety commenting may result.)
I'm now stuck with this image of you having only one tooth.

The NYT is on fire.
Who would have thought that the same paper that rubberstamped the war in Iraq would be one day infiltrated by actual reporters.

Only one small problem with the Letterman lists. Every show also features David Letterman, rendering the whole thing unwatchable. Pity.
Couldn't disagree more. Of course (and I don't say this in the spirit of competition with Fiona, it's just that she doesn't post them that often) if one wanted a Letterman list one could go here and bear in mind that NZ is always two weekdays behind. Voila, or, as a real estate agent quoted in the Listener recently put it, WHALLA!

Spare a thought for moi: I may have to cancel a trip to Italy next week due to the fact that my son broke his foot and I've just discovered that my insurer is... AIG! Yippeee.
