see the 7 seas, join the naivety...
dis-ingenuity
let's not diss ingenuity
it's meant to be a kiwi trait...
even though we are still ingénues
on the world stage...
(what is the male version of that?) -
Bleachers on Highway 61...
... do some dishes in the sunshine.
they say sunshine is the best disinfectant
I may take a break now, too, and go flick thru an interesting looking historic overview of The Story of Sunlight Soap - from Lancashire to Unilever.
@petra in your search for funding to industry groups
places like NZ Venture Investment Fund might be worth a look, as well as Ministry of Economic Development and NZ Trade and Enterprise if you haven't already -
an easy kick to touch...
I've often wondered why event organisers or cruise ship companies expect their facilities to be paid for by taxpayers, for instance. Other industries bring economic benefits without seeming to put their hands out quite so often.
That's right - we've hardly mentioned the impendulous Rugby World Cup for ages...
How is that waterfront RWC base coming along? -
Come together...
...it is of course a trade union.
as long as they are civil unions,
right?
Tirade unions are so tiresome... -
Taut tillers are directors too...
Guillermo del Toro is Mexican, as is Alfonso Cuaron and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.
Out of interest -- when was the last time one of the above directed a film shot in Mexico?I note Gazillion movies lists 31 movies as being from New Zealand and 38 from Mexico if that is relevant... admitttedly Pan's Labyrinth wasn't shot there - but then again the Bulk of "Kiwi" movie, directed by Toa Fraser, Dean Spanley was shot in the UK...
while this Movie Locations site lists many more made there, and wikipedia has more details on directors, etc
at least Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu ( Amores Perros - 2000) shot some of Babel (2006) in Mexico, Cuaron hasn'y done much there since Y tu mamá también, in 2001. While poor Guillermo del Toro has been in a holding pattern for 2 years in NZ, so not much - but I am looking forward to his take on H.P. Lovecraft's At The Mountains of Madness wonder if they will film in Antarctica? Its film industry needs a kickstart! Also these three (above) have started Cha Cha Cha Films a production company in Mexico - so far none of the three have directed one set in Mexico, but are still contributing by producing and releasing Cuaron's brother's (Carlos) movie Rudo y Cursi, which is.
{edit} I now see SteveH has said this all, much more succinctly, up the page... -
Odds Bodkin!
Golly, Newton and a Golden Helmet in the same thread....
...majestic range -
Bleached as...
I was raised and educated in Hawera and bleach was never part of this. Peroxide was, however.
Peroxide (or peroxide-releasing compounds) is a major component in many Bleaches
Many bleaches have strong bactericidal properties, and are used for disinfecting and sterilizing.
but sadly
Bleach is highly toxic to fish and invertebrates.
so that greywater may not be great
flowing into an estuary...Ya might have to be careful what you are washing and mixing with peroxides though, with the prevalence of acetones and phenols (think of the smell of Islay Scotch Whisky) and ketones in everyday life you might accidentally create Acetone peroxide and then TATP (Triacetone triperoxide ) a favoured terrorist explosive compound
... aaah, the chemystery of life....
we will fight them on the bleaches...
...as to how doing the dishes and The Hobbit debacle connect - well I think it's that sinking feeling we've been left out to dry, and all the drips, and how it's hard to know who is towelling the truth and what's a load of crockery - some serious spooning is called for on both sides! -
Painters and dockers...
...and it saddens me that those people who made those brilliant backdrop were paid less than the minimum wage
I must have missed this fact, where and when did it come out that the LOTR backdrop painters were being paid less than minimum wage (was that around $12 an hour back then?).
Can someone confirm this?
Or is it just more hysterical allegations...
...this whole affair seems full of uncorroborated,
but emotionally useful "facts".... -
Deep joy! Oh yes...
"To begin at the beginning: It is spring, moonless night in the small town, starless and bible-black."
- Dylan Thomas, Under Milk Wood, page 1, line 1.I know, I was just getting all "almost bottomless sunbathing"* on y'all and alluding to the King Crimson Album of the same name also...
Under Milk Wood is fabulous reading ain't it?
There has to be a Stanley Unwin version out there
- I so hear his voice falollopping through this ribbage of almost thru dimensional wordage...
*tangenital (er, ok then, tangential...) -
an aside @ Just Thinking
(I think you mentioned this in an earlier post)After enquiring I have been assured there will be NO alcohol anywhere at the Chch Free Concert tomorrow - no VIP area serving drinks apparently... and if I hear otherwise after the fact I will be most displeased - it's bad enough that Bob Parker has thrust himself into The Bats set (and that they only get a 12pt, bottom line listing in the acts on the ads and poster....)
