Also, I would like Robyn to liveblog my life.
I'll second that.

In the cold, cold light of day, the aspect that bothers me most of Key's giddy teenager speech: no words in Maori, no words for Maori, except where he mentioned Tariana Turia, whom he should have correctly referred to as **co**leader, unless he's already trying to split them up. Except I don't think he's intelligent enough to choose his words that carefully.

Key's speech.
I'm gonna puke. It's not the alcohol, it's the cliches. So New Zealand is now officially a blue state. And we have a new prime minister who's a bumbling idiot. Time to relocate the Daily Show, don't you think?

Voting in New Zealand, even when one's heart is heavy at the eventual prospects, is such a nice experience, I had a smile on the back of my head by the time I was done. The only drawback I can see is that the if your school is a polling place you don't get any extra holidays - in Italy it used to mean two whole weeks off (for reasons that I was never quite able to divine). But then here kids for the most part like going to school.
Weird country.

Krugman on wat he hopes will be The Obama Agenda.

Nope, wait, this terrifies me more:
And competent; she runs a good school gala.

(I'm prepared to feel more optimistic if Giovanni offers one of those sure-fire predictions of a left-led government that he used for Obama)
Sorry, David, I just don't feel it. It has recently transpired that the in-laws might be voting Labour, and that ordinarily would point to a landslide for our side... but not this time.
Anyway, I'm not assuming a damn thing before the only poll that really matters has even opened.
heh... reminded me of one of Letterman's recent lists, things that John McCain can say to turn this thing around: The only poll that matters is the one in my pants.
I'm sorta resigned to some form of right-wing government being formed but I comfort myself with the (potentially naive) thought that whomever wins, they will do what they genuinely believe is best for New Zealand.
Yep, I'm terrified about that. For instance, they genuinely think that privatising prisons is good for New Zealand.

I ludicrously and egotistically flatter myself that I commissioned this post, and that's just wrong... nonetheless, it's exactly what I had in mind, the antidote to the insufferable wet blanketism of the last, interminable thirty-six hours. Thank you Jolisa, knew we could count on you.
Agree with everything that has been said about the difference in symbolism and import of a hypothetical Clinton victory. Deportation from the native continent, slavery, lynchings... the gaping wounds of history are just so stark and well documented and precise, whereas sexism know no latitude and yes, Danielle, of course it hasn't be quite as universally denounced and rejected, but still, if only by a matter of degrees I'd have to say that this victory for this candidate in this country is probably a bigger deal at this time in history. Here's hoping a woman president not named Palin will follow and we can shed some tear and raise a glass or three about that. See you all here in eight years?
-
Does Obama really want to bring the endless Clinton psychodramatics back?
Oh, good, the micromanaging of Barack has finally begun. He'd been president-elect for nearly 36 hours, I was starting to get worried.
-
How about the Palin bet, then, Craig. Are we on?
So on -- I wouldn't mind losing, but never underestimate the GOP's ability to not only divorce itself from reason, but cheat on it with it's sister.
And you don't underestimate my appetite. You wouldn't tell for my lithe physique, but I can eat my weight in beef Stroganoff.
