I could hear AC/DC's drums, even with the full bulk of Mount Albert standing between my back fence and Western Springs. The must have some serious acoustic insulation on their practice room...

Shucks, what an honour Emma. That's probably the funniest thing I've written this year which, in light of my day job writing things that are sometimes meant to be funny, is deeply concerning...

I would guess that the firm compassion of the "It's Not OK" campaign has probably done far, far more good in this country than the anger and indignation expressed by the McVicars and McCroskies of the world.

Yes -- they had two different TV spots.
And what gems they were.

Jeff Tweedy at the Big Day Out neatly making fun of that whole "You guys have got a beautiful country" (Cue applause). In a slow and stoned drawl he said, "We went to . . . Rangitoto today. [Long pause] That's our anecdote."
At Wilco's gig at the Bruce Mason last year, I thought Jeff Tweedy had some of the best stage banter/audience flirting I've ever seen. Very dry, very funny.
He did have a second anecdote at that BDO, which most of the crowd seemed to think he was making up: "We met a baby yesterday who was named after our band. No, really. How cool is that?"
I was standing in the sunshine watching, with the father of the baby in question. So I can verify that it yes, it was in fact very, very cool. Even if nobody else believed him.

One attitude I notice in a lot of people in their 20s and 30s is the idea that having kids is the end of everything.
After four days on the sunny Awhitu Peninsula (Where? Exactly!) with a dozen thirtysomethings, 3 babies and a 5 year old, I'll give that attitude a big "Hell no!"
We have a group of friends who have done all kinds of stuff together for years. This weekend was the first holiday where the sprogs have really been thrown into the mix, and it a) made for more fun than ever (just less... um... enhanced) and b) made us feel more like a big extended family than ever.
End of everything? Nope - start of something WAY more satisfying than simply going on the munt together.

I don't like how they've taken all the windows off the buildings along Quay St. Is it to prevent office workers viewing entertainment they haven't paid for? ;)
