  • Cracker: Sole Man,

I heard someone say this morning that they need to imprison the Sole Man so as not to set a precedent…

Are they really expecting this to take off? Next time I walk down a Baghdad street the last thing I’ll be worrying about is getting a shoe thrown at me.

  • Field Theory: Contains reference to cricket,

Pre-Xmas series normally has the tests first, the post Xmas series has them at the end.

That way NZC can schedule the ODIs back to back in the holiday season when everyone is suitably dumbed down.

For example, after Napier NZ has 15 ODIs and 4 T20 matches on the trot before another 2 match test “series” against India at Easter time.

Not sure that’s what we need.

BTW, biggest news from the just completed test was the way Vettori hung Gillespie out to dry in order to make a point.

    Stunning pettiness

So that’s now Auckland, Canterbury and Otago who have all been bullied out of their traditional, shared, home grounds.

    Only Napier remains…

    Well said Bart,

We’ve got an overdue changing of the guard in the NZ team, just finished an embarrassing loss v Aus, about to start a very important series in terms of international credibility and we get…

    …bloody uniforms.

BTW, where is Akl cricket going when they shut down the Outer Oval?

Great concept Kyle, but you really do need to do it properly.

Reinstate the red eyes immediately, and get some blood dripping from the mouth.

The game will be half won before you start.

    Stewart,

I can see your point, but there’s also the youth market.

They often can appreciate the venal nature of the jersey changes, and apply pressure on innocent parents to cave in and fund the whole thing.

  • Field Theory: The Return,

    Well done SFD,

I can see it now. The rugby world comes to a screaming halt in Nov 2009 as South Africa takes on Scotland in front of 100,000 spectators and a worldwide audience of millions of Adidas wearing fans, waiting to see if the tourists can win the match by 12 points to win back the most coverted prize in World Rugby.

The IRB Top of the Table Ribbon.

This, of course, after the All Blacks had surprisingly gone down in Rome by 20 the previous weekend in their only loss of the year.

Forward passes and a lack of penalties were to blame.

    Stephen from Dunedin,

Bad analogy re the knockout tournaments. The main reason Arsenal fielded their "B" team this week was the quality of the knockout tournament.

The top players were being rested for Arse’s main priority this season; the Champions League. Which also happens to be a knockout tournament, when it matters.

If you seriously think you can convince rugby players and followers that the IRB rankings are more prestigious than the World Cup then you’re missing the point.

And where were the people alleging this priority list when rugby was being devalued last year as everyone was resting?
