Hard News: That escalated quickly ..., in reply to
Little seemed to be hated by the white right wing jocks of the MSM like Gower, Garner and co who took advantage of his lack of charisma to gang bang him at every chance.
Guyon Espiner was just about salivating this morning, you could hear him smacking his lips and baying for blood – Garner was appalling yesterday morning (in the ten minutes of 3’s breakfast show I saw waiting for a WOF).

Hard News: With regard to place, in reply to
but it would be impossible to climb on the arch anyway.
Oh I dunno, 'Impossible' is a red rag to some - some kind of electromagnetic or suction glove and knee pad arrangement might be worth a crack - or even something strong and porous that could use the spikes as anchors and cushion them from the climber... gloves and shoes made from old mattresses?
...not that I want to give anyone any ideas. But when ya think about all the things that used to be 'impossible' I wouldn't be holding my breath.

The Builders...
Nowadays down here in Chchch we know a thing or two about infrastructure, it is no longer infra dig to the masses. We have seen it in all kinds of states,
and seen not a lot of connected thinking/planning,
coupled with disaster capitalism and ‘people-who-know-best’.Witness when you say
This isn’t a cycleway grudgingly squeezed in alongside a motorway,
What we get is:
https://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/95253365/christchurch-cycleway-stalls-as-kiwirail-charges-exorbitant-rent-to-use-rail-corridorand this which local MP and Regeneration Minister read as being positive.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/business/the-rebuild/95214348/canterbury-earthquake-recovery-authority-missed-opportunities–government-reportand this – none of the ‘experts’ factored in a piece of road that had traditionally flooded having sunk a further 50cm – which they faithfully recreated!
http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/transport/9814643/Why-is-award-winning-bridge-flood-proneand shall I even start on the Government’s Hospital Rebuild Planning Group that dismissed the need for a parking building as part of the Chchch Hospital rebuild…
and we’ve got one of those ‘swoopy air things’ now too!
Warren and Mahoney must be recycling their arcs…
(Hmmm, Arcland has a ring to it…)
http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/67811873/memorial-gateway-link-an-absolute-stunner
Its name hasn’t settled down yet – it’s been called Memorial Arches and Memorial Gateway – it seems to not be a ‘Memorial’ to anything in particular just referencing that it creates a gate (or arch) to Memorial Ave (which is a memorial to air servicemen and women who lost their lives in the Second World War ) which is a missed opportunity methinks.
Triumphant arch doesn’t really work,The painted steel arch is purely sculptural, and intended to welcome and impress visitors to a city recovering its vibrancy after the devastation of the 2010-2011 earthquakes.
At night the arch will be illuminated by $500,000 worth of creatively designed lighting.
according to http://contractormag.co.nz/contractor/memorial-avenue-flyover/
(which we all read down here of an evening, in our hi-viz la-z-boys, smoking our hi-viz low emission pipes…)"The structure is set to become a powerful symbol for Christchurch. It will leave a lasting impression on locals and travellers alike and it is exciting to see it in place,” Transport Minister Simon Bridges said.
…
The arches, designed by Warren and Mahoney, symbolised the crossing of paths, the Southern Alps, the braided rivers of the Canterbury Plains, and the excitement of travel.
Bridges said having the arches finished was a good indication the entire highway project was on track.
from https://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/94619686/final-piece-of-christchurchs-memorial-arches-lowered-into-place
I love the bit that outlines all the things it ‘symbolises’ (we get a lot of that down here these days) and also the tenuous nature of Minister Bridges’ forward planning nous.Christchurch, what are ya gonna do,
sigh…. -
That's a very low balustrade, on the bridge that crosses the exposed motorway!
I'd have thought they would have applied the same thinking and structures that now stop people throwing things, or themselves, off Grafton Bridge.*

"And the one I’ve always really loved is this one of the Screaming Meemees at the North Shore Netball Hall in 1981."
is that a Spelling Mistake in the front row?
Keeping up with the interconnectedness of everything, Murray Cammick of course released Head Like A Hole on his Wildside label.
A good friend alerted to me to this tiny vignette of my early bad fashion choices (I miss that red corduroy shirt though).
I’d forgotten about Chris’s Benadryl badge. -
Press editorial:
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/opinion/95169775/editorial-the-highs-and-lows-of-synthetic-cannabisIt was a brave stand by Jesse Mulligan on The Project to reject using 'synthetic cannabis' as a descriptor of this 'lucky dip of chemistry' - not sure that 'synthicide' will slip into the vernacular though.

They’re all just retail brands that have jumped the fence to become generic descriptors of a group of drugs.
Like HEROIN® huh?
We'll need more than a BAND-AID®
to stop people HOOVER®ing up these drugs... -
I guess the Police have to really want to help, or even follow up adequately:
"Had we not had higher priority incidents to attend at the time we would have gone there, but I am telling you now, the action would not have been to arrest them as the penalty is so low. It is good to know where users are and who is involved though."

Guess who just got back today
the boy is back in town!
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/95070348/todd-barclays-arrived-at-work-nice-and-early-on-his-first-day-back-at-parliament
and an unrelated aside:
Every now and then Parliament should have random workplace drug tests, they are, after all, operating the 'heavy machinery' of governance...
...and perhaps they should keep log-books of hours spent, and on what - like truck drivers. -
Hard News: This is bad – very bad, in reply to
These chemicals are full agonists for the THC receptor
The agonists and the ecstasy...
- I just assume the bad reactions are 'merely' parts of the sufferer's brain or body dying.
