yeah, my viewing of the vid suggests that it may well have initially been a mistake. but... the subsequent conduct of the pilots belies that as a factor, and they were instead actively seeking *any* target they could construe as "legitimate".
this was further belied by their response. the humane response to error is horror, not, "please pick up a gun" or "aw well i killed some kids".

James: They received the green light to engage before an RPG was identified.
are we certain it was even an RPG? looked like a big telescopic lens on a camera to me. not really pointy enough to be an RPG </still needs to watch vid again>
Still, freedom isn't free, right?
not when it's backrupting america...

interesting. a commenter on the New Yorker suggests that it's actually a AC-130 Hercules, not an Apache, that does the killing.
makes sense. it seems to take an awful long time for those chaingun rounds to reach their target. also, the movement of the camera was odd for a chopper - i was wondering why they had to keep moving in that broad arc.
finally, they make reference to "bushmaster" which is probably the 25mm variety of autocannon (i still need to watch the remainder of the vid)
the cowboys who did this were probably about km out, or very high up. nice bit of "proportionality" there. a 25mm chaingun will kill a lot of armoured vehicles, but here they popping off people who *might* be a threat to some nearby humvees (if i'm hearing it right).

Everyone else is a wog to them.
no such thing as a wog in the US.
"sand nigger" is the phrase you're looking for.

man... vid loading slowly.
and worse, dudes with AKs are not a clear and present threat in iraq. they're bodyguards.

Because they don't give a shit about Iraqis?
that gets my vote.
it's not that the US of A is intrinsically bad, or worse that other nations engaged in warfare. the british have a long and bloody history of massacre, rapine, and plunder.
it's that the US likes to pretend it's saving you and i from "the bad guys" while they do it, and constantly claim the moral high ground. they're also in a situation where they're able to murder civilians because of a long and protracted lie about "liberating" iraq.
what this and other videos have given us is a small glimpse into what must be a widespread pattern of indiscriminate killing by US forces. worse, the global media gives little more than a shit about it because some fcking golfer playing a full 18 hole round.

big, big call keith.
surely you're aware of the tales that have emerged from falluja?
the US is well and truly proven to kill civilians indiscriminately, in many theatres, in many wars, so while we can wax lyrical about the accuracy of what it is we're each interpreting we are only doing ourselves a disservice in the face of some pretty strong evidence.
would you have done the same in the face of a picture of an iraqi standing on a box, wearing a klu klux hood?

not sure if kids on P need a creche so much as a large paddock with high fences.
and Xbox.

back in the 80s my uncle travelled from perth back to new zealand to work in waihi. they were reopening the martha hill mine to extract gold out of the quartz there.
turns out that the mine was reopened, but he promised jobs simply weren't there. modern methods meant only 5 guys were employed, all americans.
what waihi got was s stinking great hole and quartz dust over the town. they still have that shit, and she's not exactly booming 30 years later.

@lucy whaaaat? don't go spoiling my well-worn excuse for being crazy with your so-called-"sciencing".
and a correlation of any strength is still correlation, regardless of cause. if it's summer, people could still freak out and murder. the cause is irrelevant in light of the correlation itself.
