Great watch of "paper bag magic!

John Key has managed an extraordinary about face for his party. The Repeal of the Section 59 of the Child Discipline Bill, has not been changed one little bit. The so-called Amendment simply states what already exists. The police have always had "discretion" in deciding whether a situation, (such as hitting your kid) is important enough to warrant charges being laid. So nothing was changed yesterday except that National can be on the "winning" side thus avoiding the inevitable backlash later, and avoid being associated with the extremists. A Bill was so wrong on Tuesday and so right on Wednesday. Amazing. Either John Key and his team have totally misunderstood the repeal of Section 59, or they have been hoodwinked by a clever piece of smoke and mirrors.

A sad refreshing blog Anke. A pity that the Bill was not called something like " Prevention of Child Abuse Bill". Is it possible that the National Party opposition to the bill might haunt them in the future?

My boys simply would not eat breakfast from the age of about 7 even though they had choices of cereals, toast etc. They are both at Varsity now and still don't eat breakfast. They say that they can't eat as they are simply not hungry. Some of my pupils say the same and leave the food in their school bags. Would they be included in the "damn statistics" as hungry, or will someone ask the right question to separate hungry from non-eaters? (There are some who are really hungry and we should be concerned for them.)

Sometime just before the last election, I have a dim recollection that John Key was hinting at far right agenda regarding Super, Welfare, Privatisation etc then suddenly switched persona to become the friendly, smiling agreeable chap, perhaps as a means to gain the power then act (or ACT). You can't "nail" a chap if he just smiles and nods. Hope I'm wrong!!
